Re: How wet should compost be?

Reasonably dry. There shouldn't be any squidgy or slimey stuff. May I ask what you're putting in it? A good compost should have a mixture of wet stuff and carbon-y stuff. So the wet stuff should be kitchen waste but you also need dry bulky material such as shredded paper or dry allotment waste. Try ...

Re: Please help me Pagan Parents!!!

I can emphathise with all of the children who've tried different identities and religions. I've tried Anglicans, Baptists, Buddhists, Jews, Hindus, Muslims and Shintos (when I say 'tried' I don't mean I've eated people of those faiths I mean I've lived with them and practiced with them) before I fou...

Bees

Hello, We now have space to put our first hives (yeay, we're so excited). What hive do you have and why? Has anyone had any experience of those compressed polystyrene jobbies? I'm not that interested in skeps as I've made two myself and now don't know what to do with them as I don't actually want to...

Re: Preparing a brand new, mainly turf and weed, allotment

A kind soul on the allotment has just given us a humungous dalek composter. We're filling it with nasty weeds with the intention of leaving it for a couple of years till lthey all propperly rot. To help it rot we're putting it in alternating with a thin layer of well rotten manure which is full of l...

Re: bras and other random hoarding....

These are just the type of item which are rarely donated as second hand clothing. As long as they're clean and in fairly good nick please consider donating them to the Salvation Army. That way you know they'll be put to a very good use. There are lots of Salvation Army clothing donation bins in supe...

Re: What 'wool' for socks?

Hello, Whatever wool you use try switching to slightly smaller needles on the heel and ball of the foot. This makes the fabric denser and tougher. If you're also using a yarn with wool in that's a little fluffy you'll find that these denser areas mesh together to form a type of felt. The result is t...
