Re: Does Himalayan Salt kill Sourdough Starters?

Ahh first world problems... I can cope with the lacerations in return for an otherwise rather beautiful loaf

Re: Does Himalayan Salt kill Sourdough Starters?

Well I skipped the oil and am pleased to say it was a much more successful rise. Only thing is after the loaf had been left out for about 8 hours, I tried to cut it with a knife and ended up slicing my finger to a degree much worse than a paper cut - not on the knife but on a sharp bit of the crust!...

Re: What are you growing this year (2017)

I WILL NOT PLANT MORE COURGETTES THAN I NEED   I think I have my courgette "problem" sussed now. I used to plant several as early in the season it takes ages to get male and female flowers to coincide on one plant. Now I only grow the self fertile varieties and sow just the one ...

Re: How we are terracing a hill

Wowzers, that is some project! Well done you, it will be so much nicer to have somewhere flat to sit and useful space too.

And I am v.v.v.v.v jealous of your beautiful view.

Re: Hello from the Lincolnshire Wolds

Hi John  Nice to 'emeet' you (I gather that is a thing now). The terrace sounds like a pig of a job but an exciting one too! Much like you I am also starting a garden from scratch this year (it is a small field) and so far have planted windbreak hedges, got the greenhouse up, chooks installed ...

Re: Saffron

I use turmeric to make my rice yellow, does the job at a fraction of the cost.

Hahaha snorting saffron! I bet it is more expensive per ounce than most class A drugs!

Yeah, can't say that digging and inverting the soil gets around the slug issue sadly!

Hmm, interesting. I will try without oil next time and see if that makes a difference.

Re: Smart phones

Much as I hate technology interfering with life, I wouldn't want to be without my smartphone. The alarm clock function on my phone wakes me up in the morning, I use the radio app to listen to the radio in the bathroom while I am getting ready; the torch function to check the chooks have gone to bed ...

Re: No dig gardening method

Weedo keep coming with the Science, I love it! V.interesting. I am sorry but I am going to say it - idiotic as it is I LOVE DIGGING! I don't care if it destroys the soil structure or whether it is completely unnecessary - the satisfaction of a cold lager after a day with my bum in the air and nose t...

Does Himalayan Salt kill Sourdough Starters?

I ask because I had a absolute sourdough DISASTER at the weekend. I had started a new sourdough my starter for two weeks, feeding regularly and getting it to that lovely beery smelling stage. I mixed the sponge, which after an overnight stint next to a radiator, was bubbling away nicely. However, on...

Gosh what a lot of potatoes! Strewth you need to find a pub to buy then all! I am growing literally one of everything this year - my seed order has just topped £130  I am particularly looking forward to raspberries (autumn bliss) (if I can get out there in the bog to plant the bare root canes!...

Re: Smart phones

Sorry fruitfly, can't help there as I have an iPhone, although I have just smashed the glass so I can see why you want one with some protection! Although I can't think of a phone with a snap cover (not since 2002 anyway!) you can get some covers with a clicky flap cover thing, or a book-shape with t...
