Re: Water storage on the cheap

Ive never thought of putting bleach in the water, im going to look into that (no offence to your maths) as its a great idea but i would hate to ruin my 1000litres.
I remember my dad putting sacks of sheep muck in his barrels of water when i was a kid.

Re: Most "money-saving" vegetable

i would say swede. Easy to grow big and not much maintenance, dont take up much space, yet cost a bomb in the shops.
My asparagus bed was only planted last year so still cant really comment but i guess once its up and running 'proper' it might just slip into first place.

Re: Rhubarb failure

My rhubarb was a disaster this year but im pretty sure it was the distinct lack of water this spring. Im going to dig it up and half it as its been where it is for about a million years. Not sure when to dig it up though.

Re: solar panels

We have booked our solar panels for the end of the month. At the moment its a win/win. Its costing us around £6000 for them but should see a return of about £1100 a year for next 25 years. Its a no brainer in my book. The company were telling me about the air heat pumps, the government are doing a s...

Re: What new things are you planting/trying?

Not very exciting but im going to try to grow asparagus this year. I realise it wont be until next year that i can sample it but i like to think ahead.
Last year i tried jerusalem artichokes for the first time. I wasnt mad keen to be honest, but we ate most of them.
