Re: Single pallet garden
I like this. My daughter's just got her first garden and it's very small. Part of it is taken up with a small, enclosed patio, so this would be great against one of the walls.

Re: How do I get a white ring off my pine dresssing table?
My parents always had real wood furniture which my dad made himself and spent days French polishing - and then the rest of the years we lived in their house telling us not to put anything on it, don't scratch it, don't play near it, etc., etc. Moving on a few years, you can imagine my horror when my...

Re: Any home edders out there?
The most recent opposition I've come across is people saying it will be so full on and I will have such little time to myself - whereas if the boys were at school I would have time to get chores done, have hobbies or work. While I think this view is a little selfish and I hope to share hobbies and ...

Re: New Years Resolutions anyone??
I don't usually make them, but I did decide, having tried it, to swear in capital letters on Facebook much more often - and I said so on there too. You should have seen the language that followed in the comments.
Terrible it was.

Re: Help with family
Good advice above, so all I'll add is two little bits 1) you can't like everyone and you can't be liked by everyone. It's the same for everyone. 2) you choose your "family" (your husband and your kids if you have them). The rest of them are nothing more than "relatives". :grouphug:

Re: Yule - how did/are you spending it?
We have our "Christmas" dinner on or around the solstice complete with jokes about how the Yule log follows the Yule meal  . Got the turkey in the oven now and am about to start peeling vegetables. I'm doing extra veg to go in the big stew pan with some beef and that's what we'll be e...

Re: solar bottle lights
sorry to disagree. It's a crap idea if you ask me and yes I know you didn't but why go to all the hassle of making these to fix in the roofs of shanti town dwellings when it would be better to scavange a piece of glass/ plastic/ see through material to replace part of the roof. As Keith BC says it'...

solar bottle lights
This is really interesting. These people are making solar lights using a plastic bottle, mineral water and a bit of bleach. http://blogs.worldbank.org/dmblog/solar ... ight-bulbs

chicken - daft walk, comb paling
I have three chickens of different breeds. They're about 2 years old now. The white sussex is on her second moult so is looking a bit bedraggled and off-lay anyway, but she has also started doing a silly walk, lifting her legs really high. She doesn't do it all the time and I can't see anything wron...

Re: Any home edders out there?
I home educate my youngest daughter who is now 5.5 years old. My eldest two, who are now grown up, went through the whole school system from start to finish, and that is my biggest regret. No, I don't think (most) home educated children miss out, and I don't think (most) of them are over-protected -...

What better time to start home edding than when the weather is wet and miserable. Lots of snuggly mornings in PJs ahead of you now. :) Have fun!

Congratulations on becoming pregnant Helen
If you have a caesarean (sp?) you should be OK with the smaller size, but if you have a vaginal birth the bigger size is recommended. By the time you've had 3 kids you might need a bigger husband too

That sounds interesting Tony. Sorry I've no suggestions about the feathers other than stuffing something with them. What I am wondering though, is about the Fish Blood and Bone fertilizer. If you're now producing the bone, and you're going to hair dry some blood  , what about the fish? I'm won...

Blimey, I didn't realize it was that bad
. I always felt a bit uncomfortable that my three are enclosed in a run but compared to that they're practically wild!
