Re: Spinach question

Ina, Now that's surprising!!! Well I watered the spinach last night and picked some leaves this morning (want to cook this dish tomorrow) but I really think they are on their last legs so I'll take them out and sow more next month. Anyway I really should be eating courgettes right now as I a...

Re: Spinach question

Thanks guys (and so nice to see you again,Ina! I haven't been around here myself for ages until just recently). I will give it a go. It bolted because the weather turned hot in June and it was a very dry month, although I was watering it every day. But then this last week has been cooler and cloudie...

Spinach question

This is the first year I've grown spinach (yes really!) and of course it's bolted. I expected that. The hens are happy to munch it. What I'm wondering though, can I still use the remaining leaves or will they be tough and horrible and changed taste/texture, you know, like a bolted lettuce is inedibl...

Re: site issue

I can't remember his name on facebook but he did tell us once. Ish without Boboff isn't quite right. I might be inclined to post more if he reappears just so I can post loads of  :hugish: :grouphug: :flower:  :salute: to annoy him. And argue with him about raspberry pruning. Com...

Re: Brussels sprouts apology

You will have to send us one each, at least to Maggie and me. :-) I do believe you, you know! Not that I can grow them here as I guess you have to start earlyish in the year and I don't sow my brassicas (kale and PSB) until July to be planted out mid August after the worst of the flea beetles have g...

Re: Parsnip pest

And also, even though I'm a bug crazy person, those that are usually underground I know less about. Thanks for mentioning vine weevils as I hadn't realised their larvae looked like that. That'd be the 20 or so we found in a pot containing daffodils that I've just replanted. The chooks enjoyed their ...

Re: Parsnip pest

Size sounds rather like chafer grubs but I've not heard of them burrowing into parsnip roots before. Normally they eat grass roots although I do find some in my veg patch. Chickens like them.
