Re: 101 non-swear words

My MIL calls her private bits 'Possible'

I couldn't understand why so after a good few years I got brave and asked her why.

'Oh', she said, 'When i just have a strip wash, I wash up as far as possible, down as far as possible....and then I wash Possible'................

Mystery solved

Re: cunning insults

When I was little and slept over at my nans house she would tuck me in and say,

'well goodnight and good riddance'

and give me a kiss.
I thought it was a term of endearment for years

Re: beech hedge

This thread has given me an idea........I guess that's the general idea though  We are surrounded by a tree planting scheme like many up here. The forestry commission make the farmers plant belts of hardwoods to improve the look of it. We could go and collect as many sacks of leaves as w...

Re: buy a field?

Have you thought about placing a wanted ad in a farming publication. You can state what area you are looking in and how much land you would be looking for. What about renting a field with a view to buy eventually. If you buy a few farming publications it will give you a better idea of which would be...

Re: ..mend a frayed shirt collar?

It is a very labour intensive lifestyle isn't it. I wonder if one of the reasons it was manageable to our ancestors was that their expectations were lower. If you could strip your life and assets down to just the things you need to get by, it would be less work to maintain/sustain day to day life. W...

Re: I want some meat rabbits

There are plenty of lop eared rabbits up here, do you guys think there would be much meat on them? They're certainly bigger than wild ones anyway. I don't think I could tell lies to an owner looking to rehome a pet, it's way out of my comfort zone. Maybe a bit soppy of me, but I would feel so, so ba...

Re: I want some meat rabbits

Thanks for all the trouble you have all gone to to reply. It's not expertise I lack though, I need to locate someone who can sell me some breeding stock. All I want is a breeding pair or like Julie, two does and a buck who are unrelated. I've kept rabbits since I was a child on and off - even a hous...

Re: central heating and domestic hot water from a wood stove?

We use a Rayburn 355s and it is multi fuel, runs up to eleven radiators, has two ovens and a large hotplate. It needs a massive water tank but doesn't take long to heat up. We use coal in the winter if we need to keep it in at night, but i prefer the wood which we use in the summer and if we can get...

Re: How much are you paying for firewood?

We just found a supplier and are having a bogeyload delivered on Wednesday. It will cost £85.00 and is ready chopped for the Rayburn. I have asked him if it would be cheaper to buy several loads and he said it will when he gets a bigger wagon. We have split it ourselves in the past but it came cheap...

Re: Recycled slide show!

All the builders merchants up here charge a deposit for their pallets because they cost so much to keep buying them. They call by to collect them when they're in the area and then you get a refund.
When you do get your hands on them they are not so new any more, but still reusable.

If you're not sure, syphon off a bit and taste it. If there is a yeasty taste and slight fizz when you dip your tongue in it [very technical this  ] rack them into clean demijohs and let them finish. If the wine tastes too dry at this stage, feed it with a bit of sugar syrup. The alcohol will k...

Re: Hi from tizzy

Your polytunnel looks nice and clean.....very impressed. Got to clean ours again with a broom and soapy water. It gets a bit of algae every few years. How was the snow for you?
