Re: Up or down?

I think of North as up and South as down, although I still think of Birmingham as down from where we live now when it is more or less straight across! Talking of Cornwall, OH's father was a Cornishman. When he left to move to Yorkshire his family described this event as "Ken going to England&qu...

Re: poll of polls this christmas

I would love to vote but can't work out how to do it. Must be all the mince pies I've consumed over the last few days?

Funny you should say that Stonehead. OH refused to eat it on the basis that someone had apparently already eaten it once already!

I don't dispute they sell decent stuff but if anyone can point out where these two are similar I would be interested! Perhaps the rice? As for paying yer money etc, if you can't actually see the goods you have little choice really...

A moan about M0rris0ns...

Does anyone else get frustrated by big businesses who cynically take advantage with deceptive advertising, even though they then offer to "give a full refund if you are not 100% satisfied"? I don't normally buy pre-prepared veggie meals because I find they are rather salty for my taste but...

Re: back; like a bad smell;)

I think you are right Boboff. I was in an NHS hospital for 4 nights last April and the nurses (in fact all the staff) were lovely and yet people were whinging, mainly about things the nursing staff had no control over and weren't an issue anyway. I'm not sure why people feel obliged to complain in t...

Re: back; like a bad smell;)

Good luck with your op and hope you will feel better soon. It makes me mad that we are brainwashed into thinking our medical services are FREE and therefore we should just be damned grateful for anything we get. We actually pay, even if it's indirectly, via NI contributions and taxes all our working...

"roast parsnip, sprouts, cranberry and chestnut bubble and stilton rarebit cake"

Any chance of a recipe, that sounds lovely!

Paraffin

I hadn't really thought of this too deeply because the last time I bought paraffin it was blue or pink and dispensed from machines in the street (ie a VERY long tiime ago...), but now I need to buy some for our greenhouse/polytunnel heater. Does anyone have any ideas on the best/cheapest source of p...

Re: dismayed at a t3$c0 free range chicken

They have basically fobbed you off, which is what they manage to get away with for probably 99% of their complaints. Their "complaints department" is not there to actually put complaints right, it's there to pay people off to get rid of the complainant as cheaply and easily as possible. Yo...

Re: dismayed at a t3$c0 free range chicken

That sounds definitely odd. There is little point in taking it back to your local branch, they merely unpack stuff and put it on the shelves. They will refund your money and forget about it. Do you have any photos before you froze the joints? If so I personally would head off to the local Trading St...

Re: A bit of tea and sympathy required......

We've just been into town and had a Welsh Cream Tea each (I wondered about the Welsh bit as I could only see a beautifully baked scone, clotted cream & jam with two pots of tea, but then noticed the butter was Welsh...) and I wish I could send you a portion as it certainly sent us on our way in ...

Re: please help, snail trouble

We had one of these, although it was a slug rather than a snail. He/she used to come under the door at night and wander about before leaving again. When we moved and lifted the sofa it was covered in silver trails - shows how often I moved it I suppose... Is there some way it could be getting under ...

Re: Spong bits

It's a 1940s/1950s manual mincer. They normally attach to a table or whatever and then you feed in whatever you want to mince - beef, onions, fruit, fingers... You can use it to make all sorts, I use it to mince up stuff for wine-making. A bit of nostalgia in a way, long replaced by food processors ...

Spong bits

I've had one of these for ages and I love it. It screws onto a work surface but is sometimes hard to use as the surface can only be thinnish and so it is only any use on the edge of our dresser rather than a work surface. A friend gave me another one on Friday and I had intended just to keep the cut...
