Re: Selling off eggs from chickens - tax concern?

I have one friend who has found what may be termed a loophole for selling food. We are both re-enactors and several years ago I built a portable bread oven which I unfortunately don't use now but my friend now has one she uses. She came up with the idea of pastries and pies and thought about selling...

Re: If you could...would you private jet everywhere?

As a former military pilot, I love flying. But I really can't justify it, especially not for recreational purposes. I fear you are truly in a minority . Most feel perfectly justified in taking flights just to sit on a beach achieving nothing except the reduction in world booze stocks " because...

Re: Food waste

Yes I'd agree with what you say about use by dates even though they are generally over cautious rather than a turns to rat poison on a particular date and public safety is of course a serious issue but with regards to best before dates they are nothing more than a guide and producers do sod all to t...

Re: Selling off eggs from chickens - tax concern?

Simple answer is yes it should be declared as income. I'd happily just paid PAYE for most of my working life until a couple of redundancies found me self employed. We soon leant about income and expenditure and as GA says there is an awful lot that can be put against income. Not only feed and pens b...

Re: Food waste

But "best before" dates does not mean that the food is spoiled or should be trashed... That people refuse to buy such products is a cultural artifact... I've family members and specifically my sister in law who throw out perfectly good food "because it's out of date and they wouldn't...

Mattresses

I've asked this question on another forum but always interesting to hear the views of a different set of people. Cut and pasted from the original because I'm too lazy to write it all out again, Sunday evening down the pub with a few friends the conversation went , as they do , from one topic to anot...

Re: Vegetarian diet

I had a few years as a vegetarian and that was for ethical reasons but my beliefs changed , or developed depending on ones point of view. I came to believe that the eating of animals was in itself not a wrong act. After all nature is full to the brim of one animal eating another and we don't see tha...

Re: If you could...would you private jet everywhere?

I'm getting a little worried about this forum. For a forum with a whole section devoted to envoiromental issues it seems to go against the grain to even suggest flying let alone chartering private jets and then to have answers going along with the idea just seem so out of place . Then there was rene...

Re: If you could...would you private jet everywhere?

Frankly no I wouldn't. I try not to fly at all if I can , I just see no real need for it. Burn tons of fuel just to sit around with a load of strangers in their underwear drinking far too much cheap plonk and eating far too much . Always makes me wonder just how many people are travelling at any tim...

Re: RenewableCandy's Hardcore challenge

I had to look up what a dingo was but it does seem to be a cracking tool. I've never come across one of those in the UK ( which hardly proves they don't exsist here) . We do have mini diggers that seem more common and this sort of thing which seems quite similar , https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JCB-TD10...

Re: RenewableCandy's Hardcore challenge

This weekend just gone I went to a tool show . It was pretty well oriented towards cordless tools and one thing they had was a makita 36v battery wheelbarrow. How many charges that would take to move RC's gravel i wouldn't know . There are also petrol chomping barrows on tracks available as well and...

Re: RenewableCandy's Hardcore challenge

Several years ago I acquired around seventy 9" concrete blocks and stacked them on the front garden. Went to work as normally the next day but when I got home the pile had vanished. Turned out my father who was in his early seventies at the time had moved them , one at a time on a sack truck , ...

Re: Curiosity/Armageddon

I'd like to think the time would be spent pleasantly with the family , enjoying our last few days together. In reality I fear we'd spend the first two days dodging hoards smashing , burning and generally vandalising ( or worse ) anything and everyone just because " we can and there's no comebac...

Re: No rubbish fortnight

It's not really reducing the rubbish from junk mail but I used to send it back when it came with a prepaid envelope . Normally I'd try to fill it with another company's junk mail first.
