Re: What people find important
I used to make a salad for my late OH with baby spinach etc and top with chunks of fried black pud and mango! Black pud for us should have little visible fat but loads of oatmeal so it goes all crumbly when you try to cut it (same sort of texture as haggis)! Brunch today is: black pud, haggis, fried...

Re: What people find important
We find English black pudding (and the stuff from Stornoway) too stringy and horrid but we love the crumbly stuff we get in the central belt of Scotland.
Toast slices are consumed piece by piece but a marmite and cheese morning roll is delish!

Breakfast AND supper here tend to be two slices of toast, one with Marmite and one with peanut butter! I also add it to soups as a stock, mince n' tatties, spag bol etc. It makes a great satay sauce (a BIG spoonful of it in a tin of condensed mushroom soup and lots of crunchy peanut butter)!

How about a "Kermit" also known as a "Green Monster" - shot of vodka, shot of blue blos, top up with fresh oj, it goes BRIGHT green! Or a "Red Witch" - shot of vodka, shot of pernod and top up with a nice cider and a shot of blackcurrent cordial. Ends up red and tastes ...

Re: Childhood food memories
Welsh cakes don't sound like something I would enjoy but thanks for letting me knoe what they were :hugish: Some of my childhood memories are of being ill and having "egg-in-a-cup" (boiled eggs mashed in a cup with butter), Heinz cream of tomato soup and Ambrosia creamed rice  All t...

Re: Jam
Check out the Wild Food & Foraging threads for my wild garlic recipe. It's just a way to preserve it as a paste and it's great in soups, stews, stir fries etc!

Re: Get rid of stinky smoke smells?
Our spare room is also my partner's office and he does smoke so apart from leaving the window open whenever possible I use a spray of water, tea tree oil and a little bit of pine disinfectant. On a related note our bedroom smells lovely since I started scattering dried lavender under the bottom shee...
