Re: Got the Signoff...
Picallilli is heaven as far as I'm concerned.
Thanks Ina!
Got my books out and need to start getting the hang of this preserving business; that's sound advice :)
Managed to get a perrenial kale in a plant swap this week, but it's looking a bit worse for wear, will see how that pans out!

Re: Got the Signoff...
We're back on course. Mrs. Viper is no longer getting made redundant and has managed to slide in to a better job due to other people leaping before they were pushed. It's all been a bit hunger games, but I'm glad she's done alright. I might still be on course for Spring 2022, although it's more like...

Re: Self Sufficient 2021
Another Covid spinoff - Apparently the huge demand for caravans, campers and boats is taking up all the materials I wonder what will become of all these caravans, campers and boats in two or three years time? Will there be a glut of these on the market when self sufficient travel goes out the windo...

Re: Growing in 2021
Things are starting to chug along a bit better here, albeit what feels like a good month behind. Finally getting broad beans in decent quantities, and a few spuds. Runners and climbing beans are well and truly off, lettuces are coming in thick and fast. Kale, spouts and broccoli all seem to be chugg...

Re: I don't think I like Gooseberries
No gooseberries for me this year; removed the elderly bushes over winter (bindweed central) and the young ones aren't fruiting quite yet.

Re: To all those junk collectors
Yeah, there's a hell of a shortage. I've struggled for wood, concrete, aggregates. Thankfully nothing I can't delay. Last year we really struggled for plaster

Eating plenty of chard at the moment. It overwintered and works pretty well as a sandwich wrap with the giant leaves!

Re: Time on my hands
Had a few gorgeous days down here in the Midlands before it's back to being cold. Can't quite make it's mind up. Fairly strong start to the year so far here with the fruit beds largely rearranged and some veg now out. Digging the foundation for new raised beds to go in next week. I know what you mea...

Re: Blackberry in pot
My fruiting blackberries are quite cleverly placed (by previous allotmenteer) below a scaffold frame that looks a bit like a set of rugby posts. It's really tedious, but hours spent running wire between the posts has allowed me to run them up the pole, then across the wire, then up, then back across...

Re: Got the Signoff...
Thanks for the advice. Potential redundancy money (not a lot) will cover debts (also, fortunately, not a lot) and we can tick over beyond that, just about, if I take the car off the road and we keep the purse strings tight. I'll do some budgets over the weekend. Thankfully I'm fairly good with budge...
