Re: Buy cheap buy twice
I also love Le Creuset, including their stainless steel saucepans - I think just about everything in my kitchen is Le Creuset now. Our washing machine is coming up to 14 years old - it is by Asko. Expensive to buy and it needed the motor replacing about 7 years ago, but otherwise brilliant. I've had...

Re: Truly Organic?
I can't think of anything you can buy in Boots, but there is loads of stuff online - understand that delivery might be costly to you though. My skincare has got simpler and simpler (in terms of ingredients) - I now use a company called Inlight who are based in Cornwall. They pretty much use organic ...

Re: Desperate for a Dog
I got my dog from the RSPCA when we were living in Australia. We both worked full time and had quite a long commute, so would be out of the house for hours every day. We didn't think this would be suitable for offering a home, but the RSPCA seemed happy - they pointed out that she would get far more...

Re: .....find the best utility companies?
Depends on what you mean by 'best'! As already mentioned, there are loads of websites you can use to compare tariffs, but I tend to start with Ethiscore, which compares the ethics and then work from there. Good Energy come out on top for electricity (they only invest in renewables), the Ecotricity g...

Re: Financial Advisor or advice sought
The Financial Services Authority has a financial advice website called MoneyMatters. Not sure whether it specifically deals with ethical investments, but, being the FSA, it is straight forward, unbiased advice to get you started!

Re: Abel and Cole
We used Abel & Cole for a while a couple of years ago for home deliveries. Changed to Riverford because A&C repeatedly left our delivery on the doorstep or on top of the lockable box we bought to keep it secure, rather than actually in the box. And by repeatedly, I mean over and over again, ...

Re: What's your favourite breakfast food or recipe
Porridge made on the stove with milk & topped with demerara in cold weather. Muesli soaked in milk & yoghurt overnight & topped with fruit in warm weather. Weekend is often 'breakfast baklava' - my boyfriend's invention - toasted wholemeal pitta bread with crunchy peanut butter & hon...

Re: expats, what food do you miss?
I lived in Australia for 8 years and had to stock up on Marmite and Atora suet. I also had to buy Walkers crisps and Soreen malt loaf for a friend everytime I came back. Got used to everything else being different, but just couldn't get on with Vegemite, Promite or the Aussie equivalent of Marmite!

Re: Lentil soup recipes wanted
I love soup made with bacon, root veg, green/brown lentils & stock - yummy. I took some in to work one day and a colleague said 'How can you eat that - it's brown!'. I asked the same question when she was drinking her venti skinny white chocolate crappuncino or some such monstrosity later that d...

Re: So who manages without TV?
I was without a TV for about 4 months earlier this year when mine developed a small fault which turned into a major issue. Although there were a couple of evenings when I missed it (Friday evening, long week at work, just wanted to watch something mindless) generally I didn't - read loads and loads ...

Muesli/oat bars
Hi I am looking for a recipe that is full of oats, fruit, seeds etc, but am keen to avoid butter and eggs if possible. I've come across one which sounds like a good start; 1 cup rolled oats 4 cups mixed fruit, seeds, nuts etc 1/3 cup honey 2/3 cup tahini 1 tbsp olive oil 2 eggs Any ideas what I coul...

Re: Is this media hype gone mad?
I am getting the same sort of attitude - but from my mum! Given that she brought me and my sister up in the 70s when anti-bacterial had never been heard of, she is now obsessed. She mentioned to me the other day that she had tried an environmentally friendly dishwasher rinse aid and thought it was a...

Re: What can I do with broad beans?
Genius - thanks to both of you. I have just put shelled broad beans, garlic, olive oil, parsley, mint, lemon juice and a little bit too much salt in the food processor. Blitzed and now have a tub of delicious, beautiful summery green houmus in the fridge!

What can I do with broad beans?
I have a confession to make - I don't really like broad beans very much. I especially don't like them if they haven't been shelled (and shelling them is a very boring process). However, I have had loads in my veg box and am loathe to waste them so have spent ages podding & shelling. Now what do ...
