Wow. Thanks for that, Stonehead. I've learnt a few things; I suppose all of us should have a better understanding about money and the economy.

Just to show my complete ignorance of all financial things, could someone please explain what inflation actually is?

Hi 2steps. I've been following your story on Downsizer (are we allowed to name names on here?), but haven't responded as I don't really know what to say. You seem to have been coping remarkably well given the circumstances. I hope you can continue posting as you have a lot of virtual friends to give...

Ditto Shirlz's comment about you all being safe, but still a bl**dy nasty thing to happen. Nice to see that the police are on the ball. When we still lived in the UK (north Kent...) my OH was still up late one morning working on a pc when for some reason, he decided to look out of the window....

I have some relatives who live on a house-boat which is permanently docked at a boatyard. The boat can be moved if needed, but they don't travel on it. They are currently trying to sell it, and are having difficulty as apparently it is next to impossible to get a mortgage on a house-boat - especiall...

I too would love some tips as my brassicas have always failed. Slugs do like broccoli - I know! My cabbages never heart, and cauliflowers and broccoli, if they survive the slugs, seem to go straight to seed.

It does sound perfect - I'd love to live there. As for my skills... I can cook well, but fail with bread (please teach me how to do it properly, FeeFairy!), fairly good at DIY and gardening, good at IT stuff (not sure how useful that would be) and I'd act as the island peacekeeper. My OH is fairly p...

That's a shame as it really is quite a lot more money. I had thought that other mainstream manufacturers allow you to add seeds or nuts. I thought that was one of the main attractions! Given that it's Saturday morning, and 'shopping channel' is on TF1 at the moment, I am probably remembering the 'ba...

Sorry MMM, I mis-read the last bit of your post "...and the bloody thing is being posted TO the UK FROM France!!!" and thought that you meant that you had to send it from here to the UK for some reason. I had read your first post, but skimmed those in between so therefore it was possible that presen...

MMM, if you have to send it to the UK (a gift?), why not buy online through a British company, and they send it to wherever it has to go to in the UK? Should save quite a bit of money. Or am I missing something here?

I just had a look at that, then googled to see if anything else had been written. It seems to be an urban legend. http://www.snopes.com/science/microwave/plants.asp

If you know that you have too much, couldn't you freeze some before it goes off? At least then you'll have some in reserve in case you forget to buy any, or need more.

I don't think that it's a waste of time to tell others about your ideas and creations. You've certainly given me some ideas to try out, and I'm sure that others can say the same too. :cooldude:

At least it is warm enough in Australia to do that! However, I'd be wary of stripping off completely given the lack of protection from the ozone layer.

Welcome to the site, Rainy. We had a similar situation last November. After a storm, the hen-house got damaged, and a fox took advantage. It found a way through a small gap, and killed a mother hen and a chick. Most of the others took to sleeping in trees outside. In fact, one has been outside since...
