Re: dealing with anger and bitterness

Let go of the emotions. I carried a lot of anger around with me for a few years after a damaging relationship ended. I accepted the feelings, accepted my own culpability in creating the mess that the relationship was, forgave myself for the mistake I made in getting into the relationship in the firs...

Thinking about keeping bees

We're thinking about getting a hive next year and would like to know what you think about keeping bees.

Apart from the obvious benefits such as pollination, helping the environment and honey what does bee keeping add to your life?

Re: What brought you here?

I agree with RuthG re being respectful of others. I'm not religious myself but having a degree in Theology have a good understanding of faith and how personal an experience this is and how important sacred texts are to people with faith. Sacred texts are used as a 'guide for how to live your life' t...

Re: bring back national service..........

most of the people my OH teaches prefer to do as little as possible (ie turn up) in order to get the money. I know very well the 'type' of student you refer to but I suppose it depends upon ones perspective. My view would be that students turning up offers an opportunity for teachers and support st...

Re: Broad beans

I'm going to try the broad bean and bacon idea. Sounds great and I would never have thought of putting them together.

Re: bring back national service..........

As to benefits, these days they are paying kids £30 a week to attend 'college' (FE colleges). I understand people have strong feelings about this but the £30 a week has now been stopped and has caused some considerable difficulties for families. It's a misunderstanding that all students had the ful...

Re: Broad beans

"If you want the broad beans a bit earlier another year try pinching out the growing tops when the first beans have set at the bottom and are showing as little pods." from Sue My beans have pods on so am assuming it is too late to do as Sue has suggested but not really sure what to do. What does 'be...

Which nut trees?

I'd like to grow nuts but not sure which would grow best in West Yorkshire. Has anyone successfully grown nut trees in the north of England? :sunny:

Well every single rhubarb plant has died-all six. Still have no idea why. I watered them and planted them in the shade...
Win some lose some I suppose but definitely very disappointed.

Re: What Ishy things are you grateful for this week?

I'm grateful for the rain we have had this week, the beautiful petunias which have flowered this week, the amount of pods on my beans (I'm still feeling immense surprise that I am actually producing our own food), being able to potter about in the garden in the evenings (especially in the rain), the...

Re: Bloody teenagers! :angryfire:

Sorry to hear about your troubles and do empathise. We bought a nice house with big garden in a small village in Hertfordshire and managed less than a year as we had neighbours from hell. The teenage son used to bring his friends through our back garden, loud music day and night etc. Naturally in th...
