Re: Black stains appeared overnight on my new oak windows - help
I'll ask my OH when he returns but I know the tanin in the oak make oak workers hands purple when they wash their hands - I've many stained towels to prove it!

Re: Strange fruit
Could be a "cherry-crab" There seems to be many crosses with the siberian crab that has very small fruit. John Downie is one cross which is great for apple jelly - the fruit is quite large though. The Brogdale National Fruit collection has some pictures of siberian crab and its crosses but...

Re: Fruit Presses - any experiences
After (too much) debating we have taken the plunge and have ordered a 28litre press. It won't arrive for a week so I'll have to carry on using the steam juicer for the apples that must be processed NOW - self sufficiency is as stressful at times as working within the "system" :salute: Anyw...

Re: Violent Chooks
I agree if any bird is sick or injured the others will shorten its suffering. But 2 onto 3 is very odd. Were they all the same breed? We sadly were dumped with a bantum once when the owner couldn't cope and she was constantly attacked. I must admit I would look further into this. Were the attacks wi...

If you put some young-non-egg producing human girls in with ones that are in the age of fertility they wouldn't mix. The older ones would be too supreme to be seen dead with a pre-pubecant girl - except to keep her in her place! I think chickens are scarily the same  Give them time for ...

Re: Plan/build a sturdy shed/workshop for windy location?
Just a point - most straw bale "structures" are actually timber framed with straw bale infill. Straw bale construction has to be compressed etc - also not perhaps the best thing in your climate. Timber framed is good fun if you can get some chestnut poles or old telegraph poles. It could b...

If you are not selling your produce how could you ever get a return of 1000 pounds? Is the price you are looking at that high because its really big or because it has sides that you can lift? The latter means the whole thing is not held down just because the plastic is dug in the ground for 2 feet! ...
