Re: What do you think constitutes being a good wife?

I suspect that we ladies/girls/wives/women might be overthinking this one a bit.... I reckon that we feel the need to be many things to our other halves; loving, strong, caring, equal, honest, supportive, humorous, interesting, attractive, and loads of other things besides. I also think that a threa...

Re: any money saving advice

Hi! I think you should sit down and work out how much goes out each month (be totally honest and realistic, and include all debts/loans/fines from the bank etc), then work out (being similarly honest) how much comes in each month. You should then be able to work out whether you need to aim your sigh...

Re: Asparagus confusion! Help please!

Anyway I don't know if this is good or bad but each of my little plants has 4-5 fronds and are still pushing up 'spears' occasionally, so I can only guess this is a good thing. Wow! Maybe i should have started with seed too! Yours sound much more lively than mine! :salute: I'm jealous! :ico...

Re: Asparagus confusion! Help please!

Thank you grahamhobbs! Well, i did try and flatten them as much as possible, and put them little mounds. One of my old gardening books contained instructions similar to the ones you've just posted, and I was trying to follow that as best i could. Sadly, the small dry stick-like objects (that I lovin...

Re: Asparagus confusion! Help please!

Brilliant help, many thanks! I'll see if i've got room for a couple more plants and definitely cut my established ones next year. Thank you, and Mr QB too!

Re: Redundant.

Hi! I just wanted to add my thoughts to all the other positives! My mum gave up work (as a teacher) to have my older brother (this way waaay back in the seventies) and shortly after i came along my dad moved us all to the Hebrides on a bit of a whim! My mum was a stay at home mum til i was about ten...

Re: CATS!!

Hi all, as far as i understand it, cats like to have a designated toilet area and once they have worked out where that area is they'll go there rather than anywhere else. They like somewhere nice and clean and peaceful (sounds fair enough to me!), and its possible that the arrangments at home are no...

Re: Growing your own oyster mushrooms?

Hi! I'd be interested to know how you get on as well, it sounds like something i'd like to try. I've tried one of the "grown your own" white mushroom boxes before, but it wasn't very successful. I like the sound of your Oyster Mushroom Bags, did you get them online?

Asparagus confusion! Help please!

Hi all, I planted three crowns of asparagus (bought for one pound each from a sale bin in Morrisons!), two years ago. I'm not expecting miracles here, i just wanted enough for a wee spring treat. Last year they each put up spears, just two or three each, and i was optimistic about this year's potent...

Re: confusion at consumerism

I've wanted a set of Denby crockery for my kitchen for as long as I can remember, but it's clearly not something I could really afford - have you seen the price of even second hand on ebay???? The other day I found 6 dinner plates, 6 breakfast plates and 4 tea plates for £4 at a boot sale! ...

Re: confusion at consumerism

Hi all, I've never understood how people can be duped by sales patter about "seasonal decor" for your home! What nonsense! Surely, if you like something you keep it, and if you don't- you give it away to someone who will like it! Madness! Mikey (my very handy landrover loving husband) suggests that ...

Re: Where to start?

Hi, Urban wasteground is a good place to look for Shaggy ink caps (but not til a bit later in the year- september/october time), and they are easy to spot and identify. In cities i've never found well manicured parks very productive, but abandoned places and foresty places can be quite interesting. ...
