Re: Uplifting comforts

Watching the sunrise Watching the sunset Looking at the photos of my grandmothers, and great-grandmothers Hearing my parents' voices on the phone Hearing my father laugh Having my mother pat my hand, or brush a wisp of hair off my face Getting the bed all warm before I get into it (I have an electri...

Re: What our parents said to us when we younger

Some of the hard ones were: Not right now. You children go out and play. Be quiet. Your mother is resting. How 'bout if I tell you a really nice one? My grandmother told me this, when I asked her what thunder was. I was a bit frightened, and very small. She looked at me, with much love in those spar...

Re: What do you do with unwanted gifts?

Maybe we could have a swap thread here. I'm sure we all have something someone else wants!

I try to give things away as soon as possible, when I don't want them. They're like uninvited guests.

Re: Bread pudding - with wholemeal bread

I've found that recipes for refined flour, never quite work, with wholemeal. Can you do a tiny batch and see what needs altering? Some of my wholemeal expermiments, esp. those substituting the whole meal part exactly for the refined flour part, are not flavorful enough. Sweets are not sweet enough, ...

Cleaned out, they can be good for holding home-made laundry liquid, or powder.

Bottoms cut off, and turned upside down: a funnel

Tops cut off, and a candle inside: a luminary (as they are called, in these parts)

Keep one for ant poison, well labelled

Re: Should we move to Spain

I up and moved to Europe one year. It took quite a while to adjust, get my bearings, and feel that I was living my own life. While living in Germany, I took a trip to Spain. I loved the sun and the warmer climate, the beauty, the softness of the air. I could tell that it would be extremely different...

Tea first, yep, sounds familiar. It has to be another kind of crisis to keep away the tea.

Flour shaker full of bicarb with either dried lavender buds and rosemary leaves, or a few drops of EOs of your choice. Homemade shake'n'vac. Shake on carpet, leave 15-30 mins and vacuum. Marvellous. I've done that, both in the car, and in the house. Had to leave it in the car for days, a cat had sn...

101 uses for glass jars

I picked up some more glass jars from my parents yesterday. My father asked, wonderingly, what I used them for. I found myself saying, "I put stuff in them." It's odd, but I use them so often. The ones I use the most of hold about two cups, never measured. I have tea, baking soda, salt, fancy organi...
