Re: Cow Barn to Holiday Home

Absolutely fantastic. You really have worked hard, and done a fantastic job by the looks of it. Well done. Hope you're sat with your feet up now.

Re: How old are you and how should you feel ???

I'm 41 and feel a lot younger than I did 10 years ago when I was working for money full time. I'm fitter, healthier, happier and have far more mental and physical energy than I ever did. I wish I'd gone down this route right from the beginning instead of doing what was expected of me by 'normal' peo...

Re: Little things that really annoy you!

Idiots who can't be bothered to walk an extra 10 feet to use the zebra crossing where drivers are looking out for them, preferring to save their energy and cross behind a stationary bus where half the drivers can't see them and aren't expecting them. People who don't wait for the green man to come o...

Re: (Very) Down in the Dumps

I've seen a few black spots on my potato leaves that look suspiciously like blight. I've pulled them off in the hope it doesn't get any worse, but I have that awful feeling that next time I go to the allotment I'll be chopping all the tops off. I really hope it doesn't reach my tomatoes because they...

Re: how are your spuds doing?

The earlies in my raised bed were fairly decent but the ones in the "proper" ground have been really disappointing so far. I haven't lifted any maincrop yet which are all in the ground, so still keeping my fingers crossed but not getting my hopes up.

Re: Why you need Online Diploma to get better job

A lot of people struggle with spelling and therefore spell phonetically. The problem comes when they don't know how to pronounce the words correctly either.

I think there's been a bit of deliberate twisting of the tale here. Having seen a picture of Boboff in a long blonde wig, I think he's the one who plays Lucy ;-)

Re: Chickens? Even though deeds to house say no poultry.

Mine are really noisy and I'm always on edge about it. Most of my neighbours are fine and the ones I've asked said they quite like the noise (many of them were evacuated to farms when they were children and it brings back fond memories). I do worry about the bitter old bat next door and her daughter...

Re: Chickens? Even though deeds to house say no poultry.

I don't know the answer to your question Helen, but if you have limited space remember to think about where your fast-growing baby is going to play when he's a bit older. There's nothing more satisfying than watching a little one enjoying the great outdoors, and nothing more frustrating than watchin...

Re: Help, my Leo peas are bagless...

Thanks for the link, Cath. I've often used dried peas, but never had a net with them. I suppose it will help with draining them. I'm not sure how they stop them going mushy though. Is there an explanation for that? I might have to dig my old fishnets out.

Re: Help, my Leo peas are bagless...

I've never come across a bag for cooking peas before so I'm not sure my suggestions are appropriate. Do you have a muslin square or other cloth that would suffice, perhaps tied with string? Would a stocking work? I, too, am intrigued

That's great, thank you :-)

We'll probably do more than one once we get the hang of it, so we might try the different approaches and see which work best.

Re: Possible New Lottie

Nah! You'll cope. I live 1/2 a mile from my allotment but only usually manage to get there for a couple of hours twice a week. OK, it's got more weeds than crops, but it's my space and I love it. As for water, I've seen pictures of water butts with a big sheets of corrugated something or other pokin...
