Re: Lentil soup recipes wanted

As above but add some cumin, lime zest and lime juice. Yum!

Re: What else can I do with duck?

Don't waste the carcass- boil it with some chilli, ginger, spring onions etc and you'll have the base of a fabulous noodle soup.

Re: Horseradish

Thanks, all. I was pretty sure of what I'd got, just not certain that there wasn't anything similar but dangerous around these parts! Have planted several roots in the garden so will see if they produce the goods for next year.

Re: pasta machines

Keep your eyes peeled in the charity shops too, I often see pasta machines there.

Contadina- do you think you could post a recipe and some instructions for drying pasta? I've tried a few times and the result has been less than brilliant!

Horseradish

I've dug up some horseradish roots- looks like horseradish, smells like hoseradish but before I tuck in, is there anything else it could be?

what to do with wild pears?

I've found a supply of wild pears and was thinking of making perry or maybe using them for jelly, like crab apples. Anyone got any recipes for either of these, or any ideas for other uses?
Thanks

confusing wine making terms

I've got a Mrs Beeton ginger wine recipe, the final instructions of which are-

"Stir the wine every day for 14 days. Add the brandy. Stop the vessel down by degrees and in a few weeks it will be ready to bottle."

but what does 'stop the vessel down by degrees' mean?

cream and egg yolks

I'm doing a dessert for a family party and will have some leftover egg yolks and double cream. Any suggestions of how to use them up, either together or seperately, would be very welcome...I have some ideas but I'm sure you can come up with something brilliant!

Uses for Gu pud containers?

I've managed to accrue quite a collection of little glass containers from treating myself to the occasional chocolate pudding indulgence! They are effectively small ramekins with clear plastic lids, for those of you who don't know what I mean, far too good to just recycle. I reuse the pots for the o...

Pear and rhubarb crumble- sounds an unlikely combination but it's a winner. Never tried pears alone in a crumble though.

Pear tart- puff pastry, thin layer of marzipan, sliced pears on top, dust with icing sugar, bake. Dead easy, also works with apples, apricots, peaches etc.

Home made hand cream?

Does anyone make their own hand creams or moisturisers? I fancy giving it a go, have found a few recipes on the internet but wondered if anyone's got a good tried and tested version. The easier the better!
