Gooseberries
I've never grown them, picked them or eaten them before.... But I have some on a bush that look ready to pick but are a little hard. I read somewhere, that you should pick them when they change colour  So When should I pick them? (I'm picking to freeze, so when I have a cooker I can make th...

Re: What brought you here?

We need to be able to discuss and share our opinions, but lets all try to respect each others view points. C...

Re: any money saving advice
I think the thing that worked best for us was to budget... write down everything that you spend the money on, then go through the list and try to cut it down. We have set ourselves a budget of £50 to live off of and some weeks we are managing on only £20 (not including petrol, bills or things we nee...

Re: Find use for unused kitchen cabinet doors?
I've seen trays and chalkboards made from old kitchen cabinet doors.... depends on the style though I guess....
You could always freecycle them if you can't think of anything else to do with them

Re: Open fireplace
You'd need to start by getting your chimney's checked and swept.... then you'll probably need a grate and ashpan set-up (you may already have them?) You are best using coal or smokeless fuel (anthracite) in my opinion, wood cracks and splatters too much for an open fire. But be warned.... an open fi...

Re: Things you make and think, why did I ever buy it?
You are all making me so jealous.. I'm sitting here salivating... We are back to buying in everything at the moment... packets of instant soup and other 'just add water' style packets (rice, noodles, etc) are our dinner just about every night these days :( also buying in loads of bread and cheap bis...

I am pretty sure that tip is in the ish bible book Never tried it yet though, we don't tend to get black fly and the green fly love the beech hedges so much that I just leave them too it.
I mostly use my rhubarb leaves for mulch.

Same here... more rhubarb than I can shake a stick at.
Sadly I don't have an oven or a freezer just now, all my cooking is being done on a single burner camping stove.... I can't even begin to use it up.
Just think of all those crumbles you'll be able to have in November though

Re: Now on Twitter
Of course all announcements will always be on the forum and website.... twitter (much like the facebook and flickr groups) is just an aside.... a way to get more people involved, a way to promote and to chat with a wider audience. It does say in the profile that the feed is 'from the mod team behind...
