Re: conversion to electric car
I have gone a little way down this road of looking into a conversion. Some years ago I joined a group called the 'battery vehicle society' a very good start, not too much money for it's annual subscription. I read a book on how to convert a pick up truck, a USA book. Another American book about a ma...

Re: Do you sweep your chimney/flu/liner yourself?
I dismissed drain rods in my mind as I thought there would be a risk of damage to the flu, from the brass ferrules that join the rods together. The flu has a couple of angles and the access point on the 5" iron part is smaller than I would have liked. Dropping a weighted brush down from the top...

Do you sweep your chimney/flu/liner yourself?
I have a stainless twin wall chimney/flue. Inside the house, no conventional chimney. The cleaning access is a removable plate on the iron part of the flue next to the wood burner. I have not used it yet except for a test firing up. I would like to be able to clean my own chimney as I think it might...

Re: own made fuel
I got a wood burner recently and have also looked around at own made fuels. (I noticed that earlier posts here mention paper, cardboard and hedge cuttings for example ) I keep all cardboard tubes from loo rolls and paper towels etc. I stuff them with paper mache and wood chips from chainsaw useage e...

Dual Flush Toilets are disastrous
According to a very well informed website http://timesonline.typepad.com/environment/ Dual flush loos are disastrous. (see Apr. 2008) Stories there of people using loads of water due to these systems draining away water, bad design etc. I have two of these, the sort of loos with 2 buttons on the top...

I heard on a radio programme that Police are impounding cars that do not appear on their database. Even if your car IS insured, if you don't have the insurance docs with you, they impound it! They won't allow a producer (produce it at the Police station in a few days) They say that as many as 1 in 5...

For a practical solution to a cheap well proven wood frame home build see the 'Walter Segal' Method of build. Post and Beam. Ideal for sloping bits of land that developers have little interest in, for example. A council in London (Lewisham?) approved a group of these houses many years ago. What happ...

Hi big Al, what is following pools? A football team? Sorry to hear about your struggles in walking longer distances. Keep up the walking with shorter distances. It may be better to ditch the car, your cab fares appear to be very cheap. The cost of tax insurance maintenance petrol and the rest will p...

My wife insisted on a gel saddle. To be comfortable she also needed to sit in a more upright position. If you can't lower the seat, as Big al say's the frame may be to large. To sit more upright with what you have try flipping the stem (the part that holds the handlebars as this can also raise and l...
