Re: Got the Signoff...
I'm amazed that this thread is somehow at the top of the forum after all this time - a couple of years now. Cost of living got us in the end; whereas I had hoped before we could live on less, it became the case that we could barely live on what we had for a short while. I've got nothing to whinge ab...

Re: I am back
It's very quiet. I had tried to log in a bit over the last few years and hadn't been able to find the site - so I assumed it had gone.
It's good to see it back up, but needs some life injecting in to it for sure.

Re: Got the Signoff...
Weeds are a prominent feature of my spaces... I think the worst thing is that I'm actually quite fond of a couple of types as long as all the crops/plants are getting along OK

Re: Got the Signoff...
There's time! I'm turning over as much as I can at the moment and letting the frosts do the job for me - the weeds have got a bit out of hand in some sections and I need to rotate the brassicas badly.
Hoping to pick up a trailer load of muck soon.

It's not politics to point out that food's a touch more erratic in it's supply and more expensive; that's just truth :)

Re: Got the Signoff...
I know I've not exactly been a shining light presence on this forum recently, but I'm still here, and still very much learning. The plan creeps forwards. I will be dropping hours by March; not as many as I'd like, but enough to give me an afternoon a week dedicated to working out back, instead of sn...

Re: DIY Energy
I can't deny the looming gas issues worry me a little bit. We're on a fixed price for energy, which expires in... January. Something to look forward to. Thankfully our main working/living area is heated by a wood stove, and our bedroom is a very well insulated room where the heating pretty much neve...

Do you lot watch the weather radars in your respective countries? Sometimes you can get a better picture of the local patterns. They're not infallible but the UK has one of the best networks in the world.

Re: Thrifty self sufficiency?
She is very thrifty, but it has the slight feel of a hobby in the very rigorous way it's implemented, if that makes sense. There are some tips on the blog that are just a bit odd - for example, the one about ditching clock radios, which have an incredibly low power drain from the LED segment. Some s...

Re: Got the Signoff...
Crop's been pretty poor; got a small amount of blackcurrant jam but the bushes are recovering, I think, from being moved over winter. There's a lot of tired soil here and I need to do some serious mucking/green manuring over winter to put the zip back in it, I think. Raspberries and tayberries comin...

Re: Got the Signoff...
I think we talked about that earlier in the thread and I hadn't, but tried to order some books from the library to get me started; thank you for reminding me about that again.
