Lean-to Greenhouse Roof

Morning Everyone! Well, afternoon but... I'm getting a bit closer to finalising the plans for the lean-to greenhouse that's going at the back of the allotment - East facing, on the base of an old Anderson shelter and a little beyond that. Happily, the foundation and concrete path still remain from t...

Re: Breezy

Yup - we had bin day too and a few of us had to do what was basically a beach clean without the beach. Not, of course, the main bin culprit.

The good news is that the wind has unsettled a load of the trees in the back lane and I've got myself quite a decent kindling pile now :)

Surely that's the most sustainable Christmas out there :D

Re: Hello from the West Midlands

I've fired up the PC properly tonight and thought I'd put up a couple of pictures. Please excuse the low quality but my web server is pretty anemic... Looking towards the West - access to the back lane and the weird lawn. Red currants in the surrounding bed - planning to reduce the numbers of these ...

Re: Heat a greenhouse (environmentally friendly please)

I'm a bit late to the party, but in the summer I cut down a huge pine tree in my garden. As we didn't have the allotment at the time, we were a bit stuck for space, so I put everything that I could through the wood chipper (small electric one but surprisingly robust) and filled a builder's bag (the ...

Re: A self sufficient Christmas?

Ahh, Christmas is the worst. We live about 300 miles away from our nearest family, so it always entails a pilgrimage by car (it's not really train-able) that pretty makes it as far as self-sufficient as it could possibly be. On the upside, I'm going to see what seeds I can raid from my parent's shed.

It's a horrendously expensive way to buy tea, but Whittards will fill your loose leaf caddies up if you want now.

Re: Hello from the West Midlands

An allotment so close to home sounds fabulous - my last one was about five miles away! It sounds like whoever had it last put some good stuff in and now you've uncovered it you'll be able to get it productive quite quickly. It might be worth getting the rules of your particular allotment, if you ha...

Hello from the West Midlands

Hello! Hope you're all alright - I just wanted to say hello after my account was approved. I'm quite new to gardening and growing in general. When I was younger, I took out John Seymour's Complete Guide to Self Sufficiency from the school library repeatedly, pawing through the pages and, I suppose, ...
