Re: For saving money around the house!
Microfibre fleece blanket used as a sheet keeps the bed warm if you don't like to use the heating. Plastic sheeting over the windows if you don't have double-glazing. Cut open a tube to extract the most of the product. Invest in a hand-held bidet if you're not metered to save on loo roll - or use cu...

Re: Change of Lifestyle
No I haven't. I thought if any of you did, it might give me some good ideas in case I decided to grow things especially, without wasting time and effort. I am creating a little stash of essentials, teabags, milk powder, bottled water, and other items, for if it starts up again as they suggest it mig...

Apples
My apples are either James Grieve or Elstar. I've looked at pictures on the internet and they look similar. What is the best way to distinguish between them? It would be nice to know this year what they are.

And these are the normal blackcurrants as they have always been and the ones that have something wrong with them, but on one side of the shrub only.

Re: Apples, pears and blackcurrants
These are the blackened leaves on the pear tree. Normally, there are lots of leaves with the orangey bits on, but there are only a few of those this year and more of the black bits.

Apples, pears and blackcurrants
1. Some of my apples are developing nicely, some drop off very easily as I check them and some of them are wrinkly, but the ones that come off easily are not necessarily the wrinkly ones. 2. The pear tree has always had that rust spot thing on the leaves. Now it's got something dark brown or black o...

Re: Growing runner beans
Thanks. If I soak Kelvedon peas in water overnight, will that help or hinder germination. I've read that they can be planted in June aswell as earlier in the year for a later harvest.

Growing runner beans
I'm doing this last minute and haven't prepared and I'm planting a few Streamline runner beans today alongside canes stuck in the ground. The bean plants grow about six feet and I don't think the canes will support that height so will it affect the plants if I keep them short, apart from fewer beans.

attach a foldaway table
My idea is to attach a small table to a wall that will fold against the wall but will have to have a support under it that will also fold against the wall. I don't even know what the terms are, so if someone can understand from that what it is I want, can you at least tell me what vocabulary I shoul...
