i have an allotment through work & we,ve just purchased a hoooge piece of black plastic from a carpet company (someone we know works for company) for £20. it'll virtually cover the whole allotment 'cos its 25m by 4m & it's nice n thick too!

whatever spray you decide to use, it needs to be a high volume + thorough spray on the underside of the leaves which may take some time depending how much you are growing. if you were to use a systemic insecticide, the protection would last longer but it should not be applied within a couple of week...
