Long time no see

Hello all, life got busy took me away from anything ishy. For some strange reason I have a bit more time on my hands  , so I shall be back to brewing and, hopefully doing a bit of foraging on my exercise walks

Re: What are you growing right now?

Herbs, the last few chillies, and liquorice. The liqourice is getting eyed up for being harvested this season, with the intention being not to re-plant it, it's gotten a bit big for the patch this year.

Re: Whey wine (Blaand)

I'm sure I've got a recipe for milk wine in one of my books. As in made from (lacto-free) milk, not just whey - some story about a priest in Alaska (I think) believing that the devil in drink is in the fusel oils and that, apparently, brewing milk wouldn't produce fusel oils. Fairly sure I've seen p...

Re: Small.crop.of.hops.

The obvious answer is to make beer with them (well, I would say that). I've also made a rather enjoyable hop wine before now. Otherwise hop pillows are supposed to be a good aid for sleeping.

Re: Growing in 2018 weather

I'm looking like I'm going to have all of 10 chillis from 6 plants this year, although I have also lost maybe twice that to some evil little critter I didn't spot until too late.
On the plus side our vine has actually fruited and the fruit is ripening, even if the grapes are a bit on the small side

Re: Identification help please

RHS website says that some varieties may have edible fruit, however the RHS website also says that the fruit can be harmful if ingested. I wouldn't claim to have any knowledge myself, but think I'd leave well enough alone. The leaves are also supposed to be poisonous due to their cyanide content, bu...

Re: Free food

I've been tempted by the idea of growing barley to malt - especially now that I'm growing my own hops. It would be really something to be able to brew a beer that I'd fully grown (well, except the yeast). Sadly I've got the same problem as Odsox - not enough land to even think of doing it.
