Re: Define your alternative self

I don't know how alternative I am, but I'd like to be self-sufficientish because I'm not a people person and more time spent (alone) growing our own food is less time spent having to go to a shop and talk to actual real life people.

Re: It's an odd season

I'm still picking caterpillars off my sprouts and my strawberries are still flowering. James Wong posted a photo on facebook of the snowdrops coming out in Hyde Park. It's bonkers! If it doesn't snow this winter my 6 year old daughter will be furious.

Re: How big is your fruit cage and what have you got in it?

Thanks everyone, I think I'm going to keep it 3x5 metres for now and just fill it with strawberries. If I run out of space then I'll just have to take on a full plot

I've had tons of raspberries this year too. My 3year old has just decided that she doesn't like them after all

How big is your fruit cage and what have you got in it?

Hello all :) Glad to have my computer back, I've missed reading threads on here. I'm still at the planning stages at my allotment. The whole plot is covered now (mixture of cardboard and carpet) so I'm reviewing my massive long lists of what I want to grow and trying to make them a bit more realisti...

make rose water that doesn't smell like compost?

OK, first attempt at making rose water today and it smelt minging so I ended up throwing it away. Any ideas where I went wrong? Did I boil it for too long? The rose petals were fresh and smelt lovely before I ruined them. Admittedly my cobbled-together still was a bit rubbish so I might need to impr...

Ooh, I love the new design. Much clearer, more stuff on the homepage but somehow looks less cluttered.

Re: What seeds are you saving this year ?

French beans I think will be the only veg, I haven't hand-pollinated anything so not bothering to save squash or courgette seeds. I let the chard seed itself, I'm not picky about where it comes up. Also saving a few flower seeds- lavender, lychnis somethingorother, morning glory, french marigold and...

Not on purpose, it just sort of happens

Is there a way to follow Blogger blogs on Wordpress? I'm still a bit flummoxed by all the technical stuff tbh.
