I had terrible problems with butterflies last year . I was going to purchase some of that finer netting that scaffolders use to prevent debris but alas that's another item on my 'to do' list that I never got round to doing in spring.

You're not the only one who has neglected their plot this year . There will always be those with immaculate plots and then there will be the rest of us who attempt to grow what we can . I'm only in my third year and growing the right quantity is far from being mastered . Hopefully you will have done...

Most people like to grow their own tomatoes even if they grow no other salad crop and they are so easy to start from a seeds saved from your own tomatoes . With regards herbs people tend to want plants that they can harvest immediately.

This has been my first year of successfully growing pumpkins on the allotment and I've managed to harvest several 14 - 17lb small pumpkins already but the ones left on the plants are growing well indeed . I wish you every success for the pumpkin show.
