Thanks everybody. Yes you did Maggie, I'm missing it already :-( Nothing much has changed here I see, although I do think things are cheaper than they were

I'm back
Just a quick hello to everybody.
I haven't posted for quite some time. Don't know what happened really, but reading back on some posts, it's like I never left. Back in the UK for a short while, very short we hope.
Well that's it, Hi :-)

We have our first electric bill for the house next week, I can hardly wait!
Will all the insulation and solar tubes be worth it?
Have I been a complete pratt?
Watch this space....

Re: Thinking of changing to wood burning heating system
Right, I read the instructions and apparently the pics need to come from a public server. So I have added a page to the web site and plonked the pics on a new page. It's not pretty, but at least you get to see the photos. You can see the water jacket on the base unit, the pump is just a normal centr...

Over here there is a special spray for that. Just mask it up and spray it from the can, it is really super stuf. I am sure you can get in the UK.

Re: Thinking of changing to wood burning heating system
I don't really understand what an open vented system is to be honest. This is how they work out here: The fire has a water jacket. The water runs around the system by a normal central heating pump, it cuts in and out when the themostat gets to whatever temp you set it at. The system has an expansion...

Re: Does anyone know how to repair a crack in a metal drainp
Depends if you can get to the crack. Over here they have some two part filler stuff that you can get from the car part shops. the chap next door used it to fix his cast iron radiatior, it goes off like metal.

Re: Thinking of changing to wood burning heating system
I don't know about the regs in the UK, however. I have just installed a new fire. It will last at least a lifetime. It runs 13 rads and heats the water, and no, we don't have it going like a steam train. It is working out really well. It was a simple matter to connect it up. If you already have a ch...

Re: Fight obesity like tobacco
I read the link. Do you know, it gives me the right raging hump when tax payers money is spent by the trolley load on projects like this. This is not rocket science. You put it in your mouth and if you don't burn it off you get fat. Its on the flaming packaging, read it: This whacking great bar of c...
