Re: Do you grow animal or chicken food
We grew lots of corn last season for the chicken which we never got round to getting. We roughly milled it and now the dog is eating it. There is loads of it though and we are supposed to be getting the chickens this year. We feed the dog on bones, cheep off cuts and old meat from the butcher which ...

Re: Should you pay for someone else's lifestyle choice?
I agree with the others HH - and more so because I am deseperate to do a masters, but could never afford it as I would have to give up work. How on earth is he doing a masters without working? The fees when I looked into it were £16,000 a year! 16,000 pounds a year!? I'm so glad im Scottish and it'...

Oh no, i love eating fresh ones. We've got quite a big strawberry patch plus some lovely wild ones growing under the fruit trees in the orchard. But i usually eat them all fresh with the kids and don't have enough for jam

Maybe you can buy what they need on condition they pay you back with weekly/monthly installments. Or get something off freecycle like suggested above.

Beautiful Broccoli! :)
All we've got just now is garlic. Don't have a poly tunnel yet, it's on the to do list for this year so hopefully next winter we will have winter crops. It's snowing again today.

Re: weight loss 2013
The hunger passes, distract yourself, have a diet drink or tea/coffee, it helps. If you are really hungry later in the day have a piece of fruit. Oranges are good because you can eat the segments one at a time and space them out. Im having a fast day today too. This is my 3rd one. It's also just aft...

Re: Bicarbonate of Soda
I add it to tooth paste to whiten my teeth. And i wash my hair with it- about 4tbsp mixed into a liter jug of hot water, pour over hair and massage in and rinse off well with warm water. You can then use a lemon juice rinse for conditioner. I also use a deodorant bar which has bi carb in it, althoug...

Re: A New Blog About Off Grid Living, Building, Gardening &
I don't have time to write a blog either, i already spend too much time at the computer as it is! Need to cut back. Soon as the last frost's over there'll be lots to do in the garden. My husbands pruning the fruit trees just now, im just stuck in the house with the kids, winter is boring.

Re: bread help please!
Is there no sugar for the yeast? I don't think dried yeast needs sugar. I use fresh yeast frozen into moulded balls of the right weight. just before making my bread I dissolve half a teaspoon of honey in a little hot water and drop the yeast ball in. 15 minutes later it's frothy and ready. I think ...

Re: bread help please!
I use Jamie Oliver's recipe which is really good: http://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/bread-recipes/basic-bread-recipe Although i mix the salt into the flour first, then separately mix the dry yeast with the sugar and 1/2 the water and leave it for 5 min or so somewhere warm until it goes frothy ( i ...

Re: Potty pause ( Elimination Communication )
You should! I only use 1 nappy at night now and i put one on him if we go out but he usually stays dry and i take him to the toilet if i get the opportunity. I also lifted the rug in the living room so it's easier to clean up any accidents on the wooden floor. He is still not dry at night but i thin...
