Thanks Mike,
Although they are a tiny bit on the fibrous side (nothing a little stewing for crumble won't fix), they are by no means hollow.
I think I'll pick half and let the plant have the rest. Although, there are a good few new shoots coming up already. When do these thing s stop growing!?

Too late for Rhubarb?
Our rhubarb has grown quite large while away on holiday. It has many massive stems on it but I've always thought that they can't be harvested after the end of June due to the oxalic acid seeping into the stems and making them unusable. I don't know what variety we have as the root was given to us a ...

Re: rethinking allotment layout
I think if you do want you think you can manage to start with, you'll do fine. As you say, it's a relatively laid back pastime and you have as long as you like to experiment. Our plot was really overgrown when we took charge of it.... http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a149/benjibogs/DSCN1394.jpg So ...

Re: why am I always so tired?
When you say for a while, how long? Have you been ill with anything recently? My wife acquired Chronic fatigue Syndrome after a bout of glandular fever, originally the docs tested for thyroid problems but nothing showed up. Although it doesn't manifest itself in sleeplessness or after meals (as far ...

Re: allotment inferiority complex!
Hey Pops, Don't let it get you down, as has been said, you get what you want out of the allotment, and self satisfaction in knowing the hard work you've put in. We're the same (a bit), we took over our plot in November last year, and it hadn't been touched for well over a year. It's still a bit roug...

Re: Where do you get your seeds?
We got a load of seeds from realseeds this year, they only stock non-hybrid, open pollinated varieties and even give you instructions on how to save more seeds from what you grow.

Re: Looking for a top-notch digging hoe
Wow, they do get some serious use! I only have a small allotment so I think one will definitely handle that. I only ask as I'm up in Norfolk over the summer and was thinking of popping in and taking a look (being that there really isn't anywhere else I've found that sells them) and get a feel for th...

Re: Looking for a top-notch digging hoe
Out of interest, Stonehead, (and I know this is a pretty old thread!) Did you get the hoe's from Get Digging and would you recommend them?
I've found one other company - Chillington hoes and without closer inspection, they look a little sturdier?

Re: Preparing a brand new, mainly turf and weed, allotment
We too got our allotment this year (well Nov last year really) and it had been left to run wild for well over a year. Luckily the previous owner had covered a large portion of it with a gardening membrane that seems to have kept most nasties at bay. Although the areas that had carpet on them are now...

Hello From Herts
Hello! Stumbled in on here a little while ago and thought I'd put up a hand and say hello. Although I'd describe myself as a complete novice (and will be mostly spending my time here firmly glued to the 'How do I' section) I've always taken an interest in home growing and done as much in our small g...
