Re: Have anybody else's courgette being growing wierdly

I've got the usual sort - straight and green and some round ones, summer squash I think they were called but they're just like courgettes in taste - which I'm picking when they're just a bit bigger than a cricket ball. Some were hiding and they've grown to half the size of a football and those I've ...

Re: If you own an allotment or have a veg patch, why?

In Cornwall I had two 6' x 2' rabbit sheds, three summerhouses, one log shed, one bike shed and one large chicken shed. One of my friends called my place Shed City. Here I have a 5' x 4' rabbit shed, duck house, three small chicken sheds, three large chicken sheds one of which is built into the side...

Re: So glad this wasn't my first year growing veg

I think I must have been lucky reading posts here and on other forums. Apart from my first, second and third sowings of carrots and my only sowing of beetroots, everything here has been good. I did finally get blight in my polytunnel, but cleared the plants out a couple of weeks ago and managed to s...

Re: Grape harvest

Thanks, you lot! I shall endeavour to do some grape jelly and some grape juice I think.

Grape harvest

I have so many bunches of ripened grapes - white ones - that I will never just eat them all. Any suggestions apart from wine making please?

Polytunnel gardening

I finally cleared out all the tomato plants in my polytunnel today. Some had at last succumbed to mildew which I have never had in six years of polytunnelling. I have kept all the good green tomatoes and they will ripen - some are already on their way. I've cleared out all the horrid manky tomatoes ...

Re: Peppers questions

Well - the peppers have been green and large for ages now but have not changed colour and remain green. Any ideas?

Re: Hazlenuts

Finally found that a pair of pliers used slowly over a one and a half hour period of watching recorded TV did the trick.

Hazlenuts

I've been out foraging today and have picked a whole load of hazlenuts in the green. I recently saw HFW talking about how lovely they tasted before they turn brown and he was right. They definitely have a sweet green pea flavour and I just wish I could find a way of removing them from their shells w...

Re: What can I plant now in my empty veggie beds

I'm hopeless, I should have said some of the beds are in the polytunnel so obviously the season is extended.

Re: What can I plant now in my empty veggie beds

I've planted some lettuce/salad leaves that I'd sown seed for and I put in some carrot and beetroot seed yesterday in the vain hope that it might germinate in the heat and I've watered it well when sown and this morning. I have loads of veggie seeds but don't want to waste them on things that might ...

What can I plant now in my empty veggie beds

As I've recently harvested so many veggies I have cleared and forked through beds that are just waiting for something. Are there any seeds I can plant at this time of year? I'm in Brittany and the weather is much warmer at the moment than in the UK. Nothing too weird and wonderful, I'm a simple girl...

Re: Allotment vineyard..

I'm not sure what "make" my three year old vine is, but I should think there's about 180-200 bunches of grapes on it. I planted it on the corner of a house and it goes both ways from the corner, though the larger branches go off towards the western end of the house. It has the possibility ...

Re: Peppers questions

I've got eight pepper plants all fruiting madly and was wondering the same thing. So I'll be leaving them on the plants for a while as I prefer red to the other colours.
