Thanks for the good wishes! Admin felt I shouldn't put my email address on here, and I do understand why, but it's not my "real" one - it's the one I use for my website website removed by Admin, please see rules. so I'll leave it on the posting if that's ok.

I reckon the reason you planted potatoes on Good Friday traditionally, was that in the old days, it was one day you could almost guarantee being off work and able to garden. Certainly my Dad stuck to that tradition, however early or late, as he worked six days a week and so didn't have much free time.

Just a thought. You could insert scaffold poles into the ground first and put the blue alkathene piping straight into them, making the bottom more stable perhaps. It's a brilliant idea!
