Re: Most "money-saving" vegetable

I'd have to say... mixed lettuce. I try to grow them all year round, in all different types/flavours/colors. We eat a lot of BIG salads (with goat cheese, nuts, bacon, whatever), and a nice bag of mixed greens will cost allmost 2 euros in our supermarket. For about 100 or 150 grams.

Re: Goats

Ok thank you, do you know the age of your meat? (of the goats, that is ;) ) It seems castrating is far to expensive, my vet will only castrate them with an whole operation. I have searched the internet for a 'normal' age to slaugther the male goats, and I think we will keep them on the farm for 5 to...

And we are going to grow a lot of wheat, beets, cabage, etc.

Re: Mung beans

Ok! We have to drive too long to go to Amsterdam for a few items :) But last year we took a city trip and bought big bags of mung beans in a Chinese supermarket. It was on the Zeedijk, but not yet on the Nieuwmarkt... And there were windows ;)
So next time we will walk furter!

Re: Mung beans

Yes, we sprout the mung beans a lot, so this year I want to sow them in the ground and collect the seeds.
I will try, the alfalfa and cress plants are no problem to grow. So we should have some seeds this winter ;)

Mung beans

In the winter-time, we grow a LOT of vitamines in the windowsill. Like cress, alfalfa, fenegreek, sunflower shoots, and mung beans. But buying all those seeds, cost a lot of money. So I am going to sow the seeds in the garden, and harvest even more seeds! Last year I allready harvested soms cress se...

Re: Hi from the Netherlands

We are going to sow a lot of different types of wheats (I do not know the English terms..) to see wich are best to grow/eat ourselves/feed our animals. To see wich types of crops are easy to harvest, easy to store, etc. We have our own (little) tractor and sowing 'machine' (it is not motorised). So ...

Hi from the Netherlands

Hi! I am glad I found this forum :) We (my boyfriend Joep and me) are getting more and more selfsufficient, but we did not have a lot of information about everything we want to know/do. Selfsufficiency is allmost not written about in Dutch. So after viewing the episodes of The Good Life (I would hav...
