Re: small to medium size pigs

The farm I help out at has mangalitsas. Sort of medium size. Good for meat and they have curly coats. Which is a bit different.

Re: Straw bale toilet

The bales I can get hold of are quite small compared to the traditional size, and I'm not thinking of putting the whole one in at once. Just enough to fill a standard stacker box so I'm hoping that the weight shouldn't be an issue. The room is on the ground floor. I read that this is what Adam Hart ...

Straw bale toilet

Inspired partly by the mention of Adam Hart Davis' in the Self sufficientish bible, and the possibility of having redo our septic tank, I am slowly putting together alternative systems for sewerage and waste water. Phase one, which will also reduce our water bill, is a straw bale urinal. I thought I...

Re: UK centric Permaculture books

"How to grow perennial Vegetables" by Martin Crawford is excellent. Lots of practical stuff in there. Also info on hardiness zones which can be essential if you get cold nights or late frosts frequently where you live. Covers water/pond plants as well which could be something a bit differe...

If I were about 10 or more years younger I'd be writing "LOL" right now. But I'm not so I'm going to be a grown up and shout "Super Soaker that kitty"

Re: Solstice Blessings

Quick someone call Christopher Lee. There's a another job for him. (So long as he isn't busy writing another heavy metal album) There is also quite a cool lunar thing going on tonight as well. Closest full moon for years. Looks very cool here.

Re: Hi everyone!

Hello there. We did it a year ago this month. Don't regret it one bit. We came to France to do it and the only downside is the bloody paperwork here! :banghead: More often than not however 10min with you chuck/pigs/ducks or veg will make it all seem worth while :flower: Good luck.

Re: Solstice Blessings

That does sound cool. And also a little bit like something from the Wicker Man. Which is also cool. I wish more schools in Britain did stuff like that. I bet someone complained about it. Or is that me being grumpy?

Re: Midges

Citronella can help with midges and other biting insects. I can confirm how good Avon skin so soft is. We have loads of midges here on the plateau as well and skin so soft works (They are French midges so they will run away a bit quicker than British ones ;-)) I assume that you can make a spray with...

Blogging and money

Apologies if this isn't the place to ask the question. Some friends of mine tell me they've been paid for blogging. Not a lot but still. Both write about very selfsufficientish stuff. Green parenting mostly. They get £25 a blog. They use a twitter based company and have to have some adverts to one s...
