Re: Why are 'you' self-sufficient-ish?
At 32 I'm guessing I'm amongst the younger end of the spectrum of posters here Naa, I think you'd be suprised. I am spring chicken at 29, although when I blow out my friends on a Friday night to watch Gardeners World most of them would argue that I am a middle aged person stuck in a 29yr olds body!...

Re: Why are 'you' self-sufficient-ish?
My Dad always grew veg and fruit, and fixed mechanical things for as long as I can remember. He died in '98 when I was 18 and it was a spur to learning how to do all the things that he would have done for me. I had already the love of motorbikes through him, and whilst some might not see it as being...

Re: Have you ever seen a ghost?
Evening all, long time no speaks. I believe I have seen a ghost. Back in the 90s I was on an ATC camp up at RAF Turnhouse. A bunch of us wandered from the portakabins we were billeted in across the grass to the playground part. We were about half way and the air was a bit misty, not heavy, just a bi...

Sorry MrsF, I'm an import from the Fens. I can speak a little Welsh, but I'm afraid it's mostly with a Fen twang. Arr.

Re: Quittin' Smoking
I don't have a UK source for C & D baccy Tom but i think if you import one or two 2 oz tins from SmokingPipes.com then this is under the import duty threshold. It's like no baccy i've bought in the UK, but there are lots of different types to try. I have some Kajun Kake at home which is pretty ...

Re: Quittin' Smoking
Ah, my pipe envy is re-directed then! I've not tried the C&D baccy, would you recommend it at all? If so, do you have a UK source? I'm not a big smoker, I've never smoked cigarettes, I used to enjoy the occasional cigar, but the pipe just seems to work for me. I'll confess to generally picking t...

Re: Resistafly
This year has been terrible for me with carrots. They just aren't germinating, or if they do, I am only getting 1 out of 20. I had to put four separate sowings in this year. I'll try the raised beds next year. A friend in Bristol has good results in his.

Re: Quittin' Smoking
MillyMollyMandy can i tempt you to give those wretched cigarettes up and try a briar pipe? There is a pipe for everyone: http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs921.snc4/73430_137003599681577_100001158120009_187062_8287377_n.jpg Crikey SE-isher, that's a heck of a pipe. Re: Who taught you to cook?
My Mum pretty much taught me the basics, and recipes of food I liked to eat. In fact I've always liked food. My Dad taught me chili, and I love chili. After dad died and Mum left home I was just looking after myself as a 19 year old, so meals were varied and went from breakfasts cooked completely in...

Aha, more knowledge, I did not know about the lack of light. I shall have a good nosey around them for pollen and see. I was going by the info I had found that suggested they be dried until they were springy.

Re: Woolly Pully
Cheers Bonnie, you're right, I was hoping that someone in one of the guilds would be keen to do it. I might have had a break through though; I work in a Uni, and a lecturer friend of mine has found me a fashion student who might be able to help... As for trading skills, unfortunately the people who ...

Thanks for the pointers both, I already tried the local knitting guilds, and they weren't interested.
Oh and GA, crochet you say? How about this?

If I've put this in the wrong place, please feel free to punt it to wherever it should go. Ok, I want a pully for winter, nowt wrong with that you say, but I would quite like it to be knitted from oiled yarn, as I understand this provides a good amount of weather protection. Now the problem I have h...
