Re: Gratuitous Gushing about River Cottage Everday, Thurs 8p

I enjoy watching his programmes, just kinda got out of the habit, saw too many repeats.
Whatever the controversy is over his financial position etc, it's interesting stuff and gives some good info and ideas.
Now I know there's a new series on will set the TV.
:) thanks for posting.

Re: Bread wont rise

Hi Rosendula I just made a loaf using your advise.. brilliant! thanks :) :flower: I was on one of my rants to OH the other day on the subject of bread. Like you, my bread was always rock hard and I gave up even trying to make bread for many, many years. I was always told I wasn't kneading it enough,...

Re: Pear jam?

Hiya Yes purple skinned plums, not tried greengages we only get a few of those so not enough to bother trying to freeze. The purple plums are good for Jams and crumbles and pies, prob chutneys too, but not really anything else as they do defrost mushy. Once I've defrosted them to soft enough to remo...

Re: Pear jam?

Hi Millymollymandy the apples and pears for juice, and the plums I literally just washed and put in freezer bags and froze. I know the freezer books say to stew or semmi cook due to enzimes but I've never had any trouble the way I do it personally. your right they don't look great when you defrost t...

Re: drying clothes and nappies?

Hiya I've got two kids both out of nappies now, but used washables for both. Just wanted to echo what some people have already said, the airers you hang from the ceiling are the way to go. I've always called them a Victorian maid, bit there are different names for them. thing is the washing dries qu...

Making Bread

Hi everyone I used to use a bread maker to make my own bread, then a while ago I though why use the elec to do all the mixing when I could do it myself. So for about 2 yrs now I've been making my own bread.. which turns out ok, but to be honest, I've seen better. I still use the same old recipes I u...

Re: Pear jam?

Just to say if you have a plum glut you can freeze them and they still make lovely Jam after being frozen. We didn't get any plums at all this year due to the harsh winter, it's been a poor year for fruit all round. but I'm still making Jam from the ones we froze last year.. didn't turn them all str...

Re: Container spuds (again!)

I used the soil from old grow bags from last years tomatoes to fill the containers and for a bit of earthing up. Got enough for a good few family meals prob equiv to a sack of potatoes ...
