Himalayan Balsam

Hi chaps - have been away for a while, but hopefully now back for a while. Went out today for my first proper forage in ages and came across a massive patch of the dreaded himalayan balsam. I've been doing a bit of research -- as it turns out, quite a bit of it is edible, including the seeds. I figu...

Re: We've been given permission!

Not horse plums, but I know that in some parts of Norfolk crab apples were sometimes referred to as horse apples. Maybe for similar reasons...?

Re: Uses for wooden ice lolly sticks please?

I tend to use mine for gluing or painting purposes rather than anything garden based. I have also used a few duct taped together as a handle for a scalpel blade (I do a lot of leatherwork and crafty stuff). I've no garden suggestions though, outside of plant labellers... :S

Re: WARNING: Rant

If it makes you feel better, MW, had a bit of a bump into inept staff the other day myself. To give background -- My mother and I have a joint account where she is the main account holder. I've moved and so wanted my card to go to my address, and her card and account details to go to hers. You'd thi...

Re: Over use of Anti depressants?

My 2p: I never understood depression. Not for a second. I didn't understand why people couldn't "just be normal". When I was 23, my mother had a nervous breakdown. Complete psychotic depression with paranoia. At first, I really didn't understand what was going on. She said she had depressi...

Re: How odd!

I had a picture attempt suicide off a wall yesterday. Unfortunately, I found that it had been pushed as the plaster had in fact, given way. Additionally, the picture caused the death of a figurine I painted about 10 years ago /sadface. And it was one of a pair /sadderface.

Re: Have you ever seen a ghost?

I know that when I was a child, I had multiple conversations with my grandfather. He'd died 6 years prior to my birth, I'd never seen a photo or had him described to me, and yet at the age of 3 was getting particular details correct, though usually this was if I was running a fever. I also remember ...

Re: VAT rise

The rise in personal allowance in April means that everyone paying tax will be at least £200 a year better off. Aye, fair enough - but there's a pretty heft chunk of people who already don't earn enough to pay any income tax, so there's no upside for them. The upside is, they could get a job. I fal...

Re: Advice needed on car without anti freeze!!!!

Actually, I was just about to ask that. The OH's diesel van *will not start* if it falls below a certain temperature (about -8, which we had here, and the rest). If he has a diesel and his glow plugs are out, that'd be one reason for the thing not starting in the cold.

Oh, he also says that some of the car enthusiast sites about may have a converter to make it a single wiper that works on your screen. He says a numbered part would help with that (good thing that windscreen wiper bits come in pairs!).

Re: Major car manufacturer watching too many crap old films.

My OH car geek suggests the following: http://www.gsfcarparts.com -- they tend to have bits and pieces for old cars. Or... http://www.eurocarparts.com -- as do they or http://www.breakeryard.com/ -- who have some random parts. He also says that the R21s had engines in common with Volvo, so therefore...

Re: Natural remedies for painful wees....?

Cranberry is awesome for reducing acidity. Amazingly wonderful. Everyone's already said lower sugars and such. The other thing -- when I was a child, I had a similar issue (only for girly anatomy). Firstly, he may be scratching that area in his sleep. I never itched during the day, but at night... w...
