I had the EXACT same 'is it a wild redcurrant? Oh crap, it's a guelder rose' experience a few weeks ago. I thought it was too good to be true, so I Googled it, and it was. *sigh*

If you're lucky it might be a morello cherry tree, they're mostly too sour to eat (even the very ripe ones taste like those sour cherry sweets) but they make lovely sauces, cordial, cherry brandy, pies, jam, wine, etc. My dad has a tree and we have just exchanged a day's picking labour for a few kil...

A walking stick or long handled umbrella is good for hooking down branches. And as for a guide, we like the River Cottage Hedgerow Handbook, but it's not the most practical guide out there I'm sure but it does have some lovely recipes and it's beginner-friendly.

What happened, any updates? I'm so annoyed for you, I just hope the camper van man got what he deserved. I'm terrible at complaining about things but my OH loves it... he claims that if you complain early, complain often and complain vociferously enough, eventually they will give up and do anything ...
