Re: chinese recipes
I have developed my own stir-fry sauce, it doesn't have a name. The main ingredients are lots of fresh ginger, 5 spice powder and soy sauce which I blitz in the mini-blender. I then add either lemon or lime juice depending on what we happen to have then taste it. If it is too sharp I add a bit of sh...

Re: New cat questions
Yes I am a teacher, pleased you like my retirement plan! I'm off poorly sick at the moment and actually wishing I could go back - daytime TV is appalling! Unfortunately though I have tonsilitis and can't speak so I'm not much use to anbody at work! The cat has cheered me up a bit. Another cat questi...

Re: Those little garden labels/signs identifying plants...
I must label everything this year. Last year I thought I'd just be able to remember what I'd planted in each pot but I got very confused... I think plant labels would be a really good use for plastic milk bottles cut into strips.

Re: New cat questions
I'd really like a dog too but normally we're both at work during the day and I don't think it would be fair. It is the second thing I plan to do when I retire (the first is to go on holiday during the first week in September when I'm normally just going back to work!) Only about 35 years to wait...

Re: Weight Loss Recipes
My favourite quick and low-fat tea is pasta with peppers: Soften chopped onion in small amount of olive oil or even a dash of hot water. Add 2-3 sliced peppers or any other veg and garlic Throw in a tin of tomatoes then simmer Cook pasta separately, by the time it's cooked the sauce will be done Dra...

Re: Knife sharpening
I have a fairly good steel from Sainsburys, I think it was about 7 quid but that might have been with a money off voucher. I use it every couple of weeks. I was wondering whether I could also use it on serrated knives - do you do it the same way? I rem when I was little a fairly elderly man used to ...

Re: New cat questions
When are you getting Tweety pie? That's exactly what my dad said! Still working on the photos, I think I need a lead that attaches my phone to the computer. It might be quicker to take some new pics on the camera than to start looking for the lead! I think Sylvester's previous owner was a Fri...

Yes that's exactly what he's been doing - thank you both. I think he must just be settling in. He has adopted a cushion as his own now and slept on it all afternoon! His name is Sylvester and he's a tabby with white paws and I'm quite besotted with him already. My husband might have to fight for his...

New cat questions
My rescue cat arrived yesterday, he is my first ever cat and he is 9 years old. He was quite scared yesterday and hid in the wardrobe all day. He ventured out when I was going to bed and let me stroke him a bit and he's eating OK. I just have a couple of questions: I've noticed he keeps rubbing the ...

Re: I knew I was no longer a bright young thing when...
Hmm well, I got much to excited last week about buying a new kettle. It was the level of excitement that used to be reserved for going to a gig or buying shoes. I think I knew I was getting older when I could no longer manage to go out both Friday and Saturday night (in fact some weeks I can't manag...

Re: Angry with Debenhams
I worry about sites like Trip Advisor - apparently hotels etc have been posting negative things about their rivals and good stuff about themselves so it's not very reliable. Plus I think people only tend to write reviews if their eperience was extreme (i.e. amazing or terrible) whereas most people w...

Re: Toxic overload in todays society!
I too suffer from IBS, often related to stress although I gtend to get it after the stressful situation has passed - I'm always bad during the first week of the school hols when I relax after weeks of craziness at work! Anyway, I thought I was doing the right thing by eating all-bran, wholemeal brea...
