What no wigglie worms ?

I have New Zealand flat worm. Suspected it last year, this is my 3rd season of my own garden, and confirmed this spring. So no worms in my raised beds, or pretty much anywhere in the garden. There are other little wrigglies in the soil, but compost isnt getting taken down etc. Anyone else dealt with...

Re: how are your spuds doing?

Blight got mine. Or at least it meant they were dug up early. The Earlies were fairly productive and remarkably slug free [I do confess to using a few 'organic' slug pellets, once] but decided to take up main crop too as going on holiday tomorrow and didnt want to risk it. Very disappointing crop. H...

Post Viral Fatigue ? is there life after ? how....

So I am just back from the Dr, another round of bloods ordered and a week off school. Feel like cr@p still, after 4+ weeks of weird symptoms and no energy. Fortunately a lot of the symptoms are gone [splitting headaches, spots in peripheral vision, racing heart for no reason] but still unable to do ...

Re: How do i make my own energy drink?

I have just started reading the Scott Jurek book, think it is called Eat and Run. Very good so far and lots of recipes, worth a look in that and will share any if I remember Guess it depends what you want it for, think about requirements, caloric, electrolyte, short/longer term carbs, how easily you...

Re: How to discipline daughter?

Maybe so, but I am still awaiting any other solutions/ideas to dealing with teens ! My 15 yo girl is quite something and her younger brother is catching up fast. Not helped by being divorced [well that bet is great] from Disney Dad....

as far as items Id want invented remote control ( preferrably with as mentioned above an anti-loss alarm) to turn the volume down or up ( rare) on the kids!) and preferrably also with an option to be ableable to teleport them a long way away! Yep I will second that. And also a timer device that swi...

Re: What next? Going to school with no shoes?

Huh, sorry OldJerry, I am not sure what you are implying or if you are referencing what I said. What I was meaning was how strange that someone thinks they are 'entitled' to have their bad spending habits bailed out by tax payers. We are all low paid Teaching Assistants, you could barely survive on ...

Re: What next? Going to school with no shoes?

Having lived and worked [Special Ed Teacher] in Texas and now back home in UK, I can see both sides of the pond on this one. It is a more extreme 'entitlement' and lazy culture in US, but following fast here. When telling one of my student's parents that their daughter was technically learning disab...

Re: Recession?What recession???

Breathe. Too funny. I totally feel your pain tho, you want to give people your hard earnt £££ and they are too lazy/stupid to earn it. Go figure. When I spend my ££ I am very careful who it goes to. I will walk past one place/person to go to a further off one that I like every time. Hang in there.

Re: Hot Bed experiment - waddaya think ?

The 'bed' has been filled for 5 days now, and it is HOT ! amazed at the temperature coming off of it. And I havent re-dug it [and wont be, not practical]. It has dropped about 15-20cm, from an overall height of about 1-1.2m, Topped it off with soil from chicken run [sieved] and will add compost tomo...

Re: Rainwater harvesting project - continued

I totally love the funnel design. It looks a bit Heath Robinson, especially with the shelf options and laundry ! But on a more practical level, would it harvest enough water with such a small surface/catching area ? If it was similar size to those cheap temporary greenhouse things it would certainly...

Re: Hot Bed experiment - waddaya think ?

Ok, so we just built the thing [bribed son to help with xbox time, bad mummy] We lined a builders bag with cardboard moving boxes, about 4 layers, 1-2cm of cardboard on sides plus lots on base. Filled with alt layers of stable manure [shavings, straw, hay and poop] grass clippings [warm already afte...

Re: victorian kitchen garden vs permaculture

The poisons that he (probably) sprayed on the fruit and vegetables were probably nowhere near as life shortening that the legal food additives that most people eat to excess today.

Totally agree, at least they knew what they were applying and when, not the slow drip drip accumulation
