I've made mincemeat for all those lovely pies, damson chutney (google delia smith damson chutney for her recipe and how to, it's really tasty), sloe gin, blackberry gin and sloe jelly. sloe jelly is lovely with our crimbo turkey, a real must have and lots of family want it - cranberries are interlop...

No sorry, I haven't been shooting pigeons, fishing or even foraging..............not for a while anyway.
I came home from work to find a bag of tomatoes and a cucumber on my doorstep - I made a quiche that'll keep us going for a few days.

Up to my armpits in damsons, made damson jelly - i added lots of sugar as they're bitter, damson chutney and damson jam, which is good with game or poultry or even roast lamb. I've made jars and jars of blackberry and crab apple jelly; which is best on bread and butter

I've been busyish being selfsufficientish
I've been on holiday for the past few weeks and have had fun using up recycled materials and making jams and chutneys. I don't have much money but I've made do with either what I've found, got for free or at very little cost.

some years they fruit, some years they don't. In this area, wild strawberries are prolific, in other areas there'll be none. In other years when we have none, there are tonnes in the next town!

I've recently got my utility bills in order. (My youngest left home last year so now I can be a tight as a d.......... and no one will suffer but me) I am now paying £840 less a year in gas and leccy (will reduce it more) and £680 less for water by cutting back and having a meter! I cut mine in half and grow plants in them, i use the top half to stick into pots or hanging baskets and water direct to the roots

I have bought Aldi bags for life X 4 and they are growing climbing french beans, lots of veg in old ikea bags, i'll use the upside down toms in pop bottles again and i'll reuse the big plastic pots i got from freecycle
