Re: Our "Leaders" fail to lead - so what next

Cooor....that was a surprise Well - given the massive evidence base saying we are responsible - with the agreement of a huge majority of scientists - and the agreement of most national scientific bodies - etc. I thought the argument was over and now it was a case of what we should do to reduce the e...

Re: R.I.P PSB

@Milly Oh yes - I watched (from a prone position as I had been chasing it at the time) as a rabbit took a leg up from a stone and hopped over a 2ft 6 bit of fence. Doing some research suggested ideally 1.0m minimum - but with std height 0.9m mesh this makes it difficult to tuck under the ground and ...

R.I.P PSB

Went out the the veg plot today to inspect the action the rabbits have been up to. The veg plot is surrounded by 0.9m high (and dug in below ground) rabbit wire fence) within a garden with a similar fence round it - regularly inspected for holes/burrows. Re: Our "Leaders" fail to lead - so what next

I probably agree with your analysis of those in the media keeping us all NOT talking about this - the biggest problem we likely all face. Unfortunately I also recognise in the human race the traits of greed and selfishness. I have long thought that the BIG catastrophes are the ones that will start p...

Our "Leaders" fail to lead - so what next

Copenhagen appears to have failed to deliver something "binding, ambitious and fair" in any shape or form. SO back to us then. Take hold of the problem - identify your reasons for doing something about it (mine are aged 14m and 3yrs) - and recognise the consequences of doing nothing. Get u...

Re: Hello!

Transitioning is my word for taking part in the "Transition town" movement - looking to understand how the heck we will all operate in a post peak oil world. Transitioning to not being completely dependent upon oil for food, transport, heating etc. Transition Black Isle covers our area (no...

Re: Heating suggestions

Thanks, we are looking at Oil Radiators - trying to compare KW consumption )kw/h with existing fan heater is not straightforward. Any idea what yours consumes??

I assume it stays pretty warm for a while?

Heating suggestions

Sorry if this isn't "alternative" energy but it is ...ish. We have a big Kitchen in which we live through the day - heated fully by a wood burner (a WONDERFUL Clearview Pioneer with a back boiler). Attached to it is a fully built conservatory (block low walls - big double glazed (quality b...

Hello!

Hi to all - "we" are Mike and Erica (plus two small boys) in Muir of Ord near Inverness. We are trying to be self sufficient-ish (idealists with a touch of pragmatism?) in many ways however we recognise many of the limitations. Interests are in Peak Oil, Transition-ing, reducing bills, reu...
