Re: Much cheapness needed...

Talk to your local proper butcher about shin beef, belly pork, neck of lamb, soup bones, liver and other offal. All are cheap(er) and tasty. Google up some recipes.

Have fun

Re: Another Chook Question

Short grass shouldn't be a problem, but the birds will enjoy scratching the turf to pieces looking for yummy worms and creepy crawlies, which is the main point of the exercise!

Wyandotte Bantams

Can anyone recommend a source of supply for some Dotte banties - preferably near to me in Fife?

Re: Creating a smallholding

It would depend on the local plan. Plus of course, if you start it off as a smallholding, you'll end up with an agricultural condition if you are able to get permission to build on agricultural land, which is not necessarily a problem if you're looking to run a smallholding but if you don't want to...

Re: Creating a smallholding

I wouldn't rely on that information.... best to phone, or go and see your local planning dept. and beware they may have changed the rules by the time you have worked the land for a few years. Best to try to get a bit of land with a derelict house on it (IMO) , councils are usually very happy for yo...

Re: Hi from Sunny Fife!

Hi and welcome. We, too are stuck with a house we can't sell - well we could but would end up with the dreaded negative equity - for the time being, at least we can manage,so we're hoping to ride it out. Good luck with your plans. Thank you - I'm intrigued by your website - I'd like to try my hand ...

Re: Another Chook Question

Hi I have 3 ex battery rescue chickens since July last year. There were in a real state when we got them, no feathers etc the usual. They started growing all their lovely feathers back but then one starting plucking the other two in almost a bully type fashion. It seems to have settled down now but...

Creating a smallholding

I have been told that if one was to buy (say 5 acres) of agricultural land, and then work it as a commercial venture for three years, permission to build a house on the land is very likely to be granted. Does anyone know if this is the case - it sounds like very good way forward for me if it can be ...

Re: The UK is in Recesssion

I'm riding a big personal financial hit at present. I have Chronic Fatigue, and haven't been able to work for 8 months. No work = no pay :( I'm trying to get my house sold here, and I'm planning to rent a farm cottage with a bit of land. A polytunnel, a few hens, and some bee keeping are the plan - ...

Hi from Sunny Fife!

I'm contemplating a move to a new address, where a polytunnel, some chickens and some bees are part of the plan. When I get this house sold! Grr!
