Re: A Glimmer of hope for all renters...

We have a place in Cornwall with 1/4 acre of garden (albeit untended for 8 years) a pond, and a hedge of plum trees and out nearest neighbours are 1/4 mile away. Our landlady is a darling. When we asked about keeping chickens her only comment was "Of course you can" she then pointed to the...

Re: Bottling Nettle Ale

Good way to use those insidious plastic bottles including the milk ones. Watch them and when they get tight just slack off the top and let some of the pressure out. If they do burst you get the beer over the floor but no glass shattering.

Re: Royal Cornwall Show

Pretty good overall. I was there for the first two days so didn't get rained on at all. A lot of people browsing and making enquiries and a few buyers. Here's a couple of pics of the stall (if that's OK) http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s89/bodrighy/misellaneous/th_P6050888.jpg http://i150.photobu...

Re: pests in my kitchen!! please help!!

This brings back memories. When I first went to sea the cooks used to tip all the cereals for breakfast onto the hotplate on the stove before serving it up for breakfast. Loads of little wevils used to come running out and 'cooking' on the plate. The cereal was all put into a bowl and put on the tab...

Re: Royal Cornwall Show

Hi, We are hoping to go. It would be Thursday or Saturday. If we come on Thursday I will keep an eye out. My husband is interested in woodturning. We haven't been to the show for a few years now. It has something for everyone. I look at all the craft stands and John goes off to talk to all his farm...

Re: Eco disinfectant?

Grapefruit seed extract, lemon, vinegar, Lavendar, cedar, cinnamon, mint all have disinfetant and / or anti bacterial properties. Try googling 'Natural disinfectants' there is quite a range.

I have an old Perform that is on it's last legs and most of this sort of thing is being done on a Jet mini.

Perennial or not?

Apparently a good number of the things that we grow as annuals are in fact perennials. I was wondering if anyone has tried growing tomatoes, runner beans etc as perennials? If so where and how?

Re: Seeds from fruit and vegetables...

We have always grown butternut squashes from the seeds out of a shop bought fruit with great success. This year the seeds from a shop bought capsicum are doing better tha the packet we bought. When we ran a holiday centre we had a sceptic tank overflow and we had about 100 kilo of tomatoes (the seed...

Something for the honey lovers

Been revamping my website and realised I diidn't have any of these left so needed to knock up a few more.

These are very 'ish' as they have been made from hawthorn that was pruned out of a thick hedge last year.
