A mattock is a brillient tool, but remember, if you're not used to one, take it easy for it will kill your back just as bad as a spade, and your wrists and arms will also take a battering. Five to ten minutes a day to start with is plenty.

Re: victorian farm
very interesting series... have been watching it so far, although a few of the things they did/ cooked freek me out, like the tongue in episode 2. I know it looked a bit gruesome but do try it if you get a chance, it’s gorgeous. Hot with mash and thick gravy, cold with homemade pickles or in a sand...

Re: How green are we ?
In answer to the original question, I do think Ishers are greener than everyone else, but it would probably be near to impossible to calculate an accurate 'carbon footprint' wow, really? The few hundred active posters on this site are more green than everyone else in the whole wide world?!? That's ...

Re: Wood Burner questions
I think the conversion will give your wallet a beating but will be worth it in the long term. You will need to have installed a solid fuel flu, depending on your present set up this could be a large cost. I recon you'll also have to go for a multi fuel burner with boiler, a 'back boiler' is not very...

Re: Help - Rats in the polytunnel
The obvious answer here is to get rid of the rats, traps are effective but you need to attach the traps to something solid with a bit of string, as a caught rat can often drag a trap away. The other very effective method is an airgun, or get someone in with some good dogs, but whatever you do, get r...
