Re: How We Approached Dealing With The Planning Authority

Re: Bokashi Bran Composting...

I think she really wants me to be the daughter she can buy Chanel number 5 and beauty products for (like my sister); whereas my idea of spoiling myself is buying composting bins..... i know who i think has the right idea.... It's been a long time since i was a consumerist like that. My birthday mon...

Re: Bokashi Bran Composting...

We've been using it on and off for a few years now and I think it's brilliant. The stuff in the compost bin seems to rot more quickly after each bucketload too, although I could just be imagining that  I too have noticed this, so i don't think you are imagining it. There are several great thin...

Re: Price per unit of electricity

we pay 8.9p + £55 annual standing charge, which at our usage, is about 2.2p

Re: Experiences with no hair washing?

also regarding your previous post, after a while of doing this washing your hair once shouldn't 'reset' the process as your head would still be used to not over-producing the oils. going back to washing regularly and then stopping again would have you head constantly trying to adjust to different co...

Re: hot water temperature

thomzo -
i believe you've understood the situation correctly

i must add, now that the solar isn't contributing and we're just using immersion, we rarely heat to 60C, because it does just dissipate before it'll next get used.

But then we don't use the heating so the house is very cold

Re: hot water temperature

you don't lose the extra energy you put into the tank (well apart from slightly higher loses due to bigger temperature differential) because as you add cold water to mix the temp down you aren't using as much hot as you would have been...

Re: hot water temperature

What is meant to happen is that you have your tank at above 60C to kill legionella and then use TMVs to bring the temp down so as to not scald at the outlet

My solar heats the tank to 90C but the TMV brings it down to a nice and safe 45C

similar to ina, i don't see the point in this for our house as we're using almost half of the average in this country and i am always trying to minimise our usage anyway

Re: deodorant

Yeah i use a crystal one too, its an alum block (Potassium alum), used for nicks and grazes after shaving. It is antibacterial and so kills off the bacteria that make the smell in the first place. Works a treat and does last forever, i've just had to buy a new one after obliterating mine on the 3rd ...
