beetroot juice

has anyone ever made this themselves?

i have been given a "Juicer" and i'd like to start off by making beetroot juice. but does it need to be mixed with other fruit? can it be made from the raw beet? or do they have to be cooked first?

Re: Wind turbines on your door step?

400m away from his house? Are there no limits in the UK? I understood that the general adivce was to put them a minimum of 2km away. Is that only a guideline and not a law? As to the other... it must be infuriating. Sadly all councils seem to be the same wherever you go. Always ready to bow down and...

Re: Keeping Wild Boar

Some wise words there. Thanks for that.

I have eaten boar many times myself - in France, for example, and I certainly like the taste. A sort of cross between pork, beef and game.

Re: Keeping Wild Boar

Massive Fencing definitely seems to be the ideal. But I've noticed that some farms here in Sweden have just two or three strands of electric wire. (The Boar regularly crash out .. but that doesnt seem to upset the boar or the farmers!) Mike: Boar are a good bet for several reasons. The meat is leane...

Re: Keeping Wild Boar

That's a great link, Marshlander. Very useful stuff. I think I'd need a grant (or a pools win!) to put that fencing in.... Same here, Oldfella. I think the latest estimate said that there are over 100,000 wild boar in Sweden now - having returned in just small numbers in about 1980 they've really fl...

Keeping Wild Boar

I've enough land - and the right kind of mix, I think - to keep some boar. Has anyone kept them? It's not the rules and regulations I'm after, as they might be different here in Sweden anyway, but more of an idea of what they are like to keep. Like, are they easier than pigs? Harder? Are they bad-te...

Best advice I can think of is to "do everything your self". Even the impossible.

Because any money saved is like money earned.

Good luck!!!! :salute:

Re: wood for the burner

When wood smells acrid and or fills the air with muck it is because it has not been properly seasoned. Too many people buy/sell wood as firewood which has only been cut for one season - often that same year! Wood must be kept a minimum of two years after cutting and, if you've any sense, for three o...

Re: arctic sea ice reaches record low

From The Independent August 27th "Scientists have already observed a link between disappearing sea ice and the release of methane, a greenhouse gas that is more than 20 times more potent than carbon dioxide, from beneath the Arctic Ocean. Researchers flying over the melting sea ice reported las...

Re: Spring water supply

I've been in a few houses outside of the UK where water comes from an untreated spring. (Sweden, France and Bulgaria). In every case the water the people living there have never had problems with it. I've also known other properties with filter systems. They seem fine as well. What I'm saying is tha...

arctic sea ice reaches record low

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-19330307 worst ever loss of arctic ice. and that's not just bad news for polar bears but it also means ever more methane getting into the atmosphere. which in turn is *likely* to mean more (and more) erratic weather for northern europe (floods an...

Re: Pellet burning boilers.

I should add, in the summer they are very very good. A sack of pellets will give you two or three days hot water. Which is about as cheap as you could wish for. (Oh, and no issues at all with tweaking. Once it's set up it more or less chugs away by itself. As to moisutre and so on in the pellets, th...
