Re: Certo liquid pectin

Try chucking in a bit of apple to the mix, or, if you don't fany it in the jam mix, boil some apples down, strain off the juice and add that - same can be done with rubarb or redcurrants - doesn't effect the taste, i promise!! :flower: I've never, ever used jam sugar or pectin - just normal auld gra...

Re: Doom. Doooom, we're all doomed

Basically, I suppose, I'm saying that Homo sapiens wouldn't have got into its present position in the first place unless selfishness had been invented. See. Told you I was a cynic. Mike Didn't need to be invented. All animals are basically selfish. Eggggsactly!!!! Survival of the fittest... and in ...

Re: Doom. Doooom, we're all doomed

I do not think people are inherently greedy, it is the system, a system evolved by a rich minority that demands a return on the capital invested, ie. the production of things essentially to make a profit, things are only produced if they make a profit . I agree with the fact that it's the 'system' ...

Re: How do you cope with ignorant people?

I don't really try to change folks ways of life or tell them much about ours unless they ask. If they ask.. then they're interested which is cool by me :flower: Sure, some people thought me a bit strange when I started making my own bread and stuff, my neighbours about had a heart attack when we mov...

Re: Doom. Doooom, we're all doomed

I hope it isnt I really hope everyone realises that we cant keep living like this any more and we do become selfsufficient communities and live locally. It would be lovely I think. Helen x I certainly agree with that sentiment. :thumbright: This doom thing has been floating around the net for some ...

Re: What to do with old mattress?

Maybe you could strip it down and keep all the useful bits? Buttons, trim etc. If it has springs, they can be put to all manner of uses from wobbly toy type things( think zebedee) to bottle holders etc The cotton wadding stuff can be used to keep compost warm or indeed, just composted :flower: Wooho...

Re: Eco parenting! Leading good life

Yup.. as a parent of three, I agree that second hand is the way ahead. I'd rather buy something from a charity shop or better still, freecycle/swap with friends etc than buy brand new imported items or newly manufactured stuff.. that to me just isn't that 'eco friendly' and kinda defeats the purpose...

Re: Is this media hype gone mad?

Yup - the world's gone mad and the media & ptb love shoving garbage up our noses and keeping us in fear of well.. basically everything that's not 'fake'. Soap doesn't clean unless its anti bacterial, foods not good for you unless it's been treated, prodded and tested and has a shelf life of oh.....
