I believe smokeless areas relate to visible smoke and particles so a well seasoned hard wood or a smokeless coal, or alternate fuel such as compressed wood chips etc will be OK. I used glass containers with wicks begged from the candle factory.
Found it easier to break up cold wax into the container and then
pour over melted wax to fill. Tried a 3 wicker and it was ok.
