Re: Where are???

I iz in the cave like a good little hermit should be..... still chasing chickens, being a doggy doorman for the 3 bassets & 4 cats, digging here & there & watching last years tomatoes re-seeding in the polytunnel - soooooooo many flowers on them, they're doing great this year now I ignor...

Re: New Project :-)

Hello !! Well well.... I've not been in for aaaaages :-D SG my luvly - as most of the old gang know, YOU only ask questions when you're being a tad self-doubtful lol I have a couple of inc's here & used them very well in the first couple of years. Now I leave it to the broodies - after getting 2...

Re: back after a while away....

CA, sometimes it's good to have a little break - but I'm glad you're feeling better... even if it meant that you had to feel bad first... if you see what I mean!! As for Twiglet.... well she's too busy drooling over pics of young men & thinking of folks to slap on FB!! And yes, I a...

Re: Home made Wormer?

For Diatom, I use www.diatomx.co.uk. I got a huge bucket full last year & even with all my lot, I've only used less than half - this is used for worming the birds/dogs/cat/sheep, dusting the houses for mites, dusting the chooks themselves, sprinkled around to get rid of ants/earwigs/woodlice.......

Re: Little things that really annoy you!

BE Day was the Services Brown Envelope Day - when the boys all got the notices of redundancy from service. :( The 2 bars in the Barracks were both open all day, but most of the lads chose to come to us for the day & many left the envelope opening until they got there. For some it was a good day,...

...snip... Julie is lovely, her picture reminds me of a wonderfull landlady who looked after me when I was 17, ...snip... Only if you meant a pub landlady, & you were in the Marines & based in Deal in the early '90's!! 'My Boys' & I enjoyed 5 years in 3 different pubs around Deal, Kent ...

Re: 2 Hen questions

Hi Garye, speckleds are nice birds, good layers, very nosey.... mine will try & fight their way past my legs to get in the kitchen - full of character! The bluebells are nice birds too - but positively scream at you if you disturb them when they are in laying their eggs! I give ours rice & p...

Re: Little things that really annoy you!

Now I know I have my issues, but I am really not that bad! Yes it was a joke. I thought it was funny! I had already acknowledged this. I thought it was as daft as blaming the government for having special offers on high fat & high sugar goods........... Oh, I do love you Julie! :grouphug: Now s...

Re: Would a heat mat be good for hatching poultry eggs?

Yep, it's the all round heat that an egg needs, as well as a regulated humidity. I have a couple of incubators - my smallest will definitely do for hen eggs and guinea fowl eggs - but turkey or duck eggs? Forget it! The eggs will develop, but then the humidity isn't stable enough for hatching & ...

Re: Little things that really annoy you!

Annoying me are badly typed, gramatically poor posts, where the poster has broke the "Caps" button, and all punctuation marks have disapeared from the keyboard! Oh come on - you're joking.... right?? gramatically = grammatically disapeared = disappeared And you wonder why we use smilies.....

Re: swollen comb on chicken

Ann, if you keep savlon antiseptic, or even dettol, that will cure most wounds. All I keep here is apple cider vinegar, garlic, and I make my own poultry powder with ginger, chilli, fenugreek, sugar & anything else I can think of! Apart from that I keep Flubenvet (after losing 4 birds to gapewor...

Re: Freezing Peas

Hmmm.... I have to disagree. My mum used to blanch just about everything, oh - by blanching I do of course mean she boiled them to within an inch of their lives!! So I don't.... nothing... apart from broad beans & that's only because I like to slip them out of their jackets for the freezer. I ju...
